I have 2 drives in my pc and one of them is just for backup. Can someone suggest to me a backup soft. that will backup my music, movies and things of that sort. Maybe even back up things newly added without me checking it.

Do those programs like drive image just copy eveything you have on one drive to anothor. What if I erase something from the drive by mistake will it also erase that file from backup?

  6. First, if you make a back-up (say of c:\) to another drive, partition, etc. - then delete a file (say in your c:\temp). The file you deleted should still be in your backup archive. Drive Image will let you restore just that file (of course, you'll probly need to know the name of the file or the path).

Second, you can back-up to just about anything - CDs, DVDs, extra hard drives, extended partitions... I used to use Norton Ghost - but I find Drive Image way more accomodating!

so if you are using 10 gig on a 40 gig drive and you back it up using drive image and you save the image to another drive, does the backed up image take up 10 gig on the drive you saved it on or is it compressed and as such take up less than 10 gig?

  8. I normally find using high compression mode it tends to halve it

  9. What version of Drive Image allows you to recover a single file? I have an older version (version 5) which doesn't allow that.

If you are looking for to make automatic backups, check the product called: "Retrospect" from http://www.dantz.com/, you can schedule backups based on certain conditions such as a new file added and a file recently modified, it has the capability of encryption and also can make backups from one computer to another through the internet.
