Im trying to convert a Xvid file to SVCD but dont know if I should set it to 4:3 or 16:9 in TMPG

I did a test as both and the 4:3 was jerky. The 16:9 played well but I think it looked streached.

I read thru this but didnt really get it as to what im trying to do:

Instead of changing the aspect ratio, try this:

SVCD's are only 4:3. There's no such thing as a 16:9 (it's non-standard). 16:9 AVI's need to be letterboxed to 4:3 to play properly on most standalone players.

  6. The aspect Ratio doesn't affect playback or create a 'jerky' video. All it does is stretch the video. And, it's right you should always be able to use 4:3 on the video tab, and most of the time use FullScreen(keep aspect ratio) on the advanced tab, assuming you will be using TmpGenc.

By looking at your file information your source aspect ratio is standard and should come out perfect w/ the settings I just stated. If you are using 3:2 pulldown expect a jerky video if it happens. I have had good luck converting the video to 29.97 without 3:2 pulldown. If you have a newer DVD player it may play the video at 23.976 without the pulldown, mine does and very well. You would have to try a test.
