  1. I encoded some avi files to SVCD and want to burn them on a DVD with DVD-lab. I already burned a DVD but because of the TV Overscan the subtitles are sometimes cut off. What is the easiest way to handle that?

The only easy way to deal with that is to resize the image when you do your MPEG encoding. For instance instead of resizing to 480x480 (which is NTSC resolution for SVCD) you would resize to something like 448x448 and leave a black border of 16 on all 4 sides of the image. This will help account for the overscan on a TV.

I suggest you try using the program called FitCD to help you determine what size resolution you need to resize too.

BTW you should know that SVCD resolution is not really DVD compliant so since you will need to re-encode these AVI files you should either do Full D1 which is 720x480 (NTSC) or Half D1 which is 352x480 (NTSC). Despite the fact that Half D1 is only 352 wide compared to the 480 width of SVCD you shouldn't be able to see the difference and at least Half D1 is a compliant DVD resolution.

    P.S.
Remember that PAL uses a height of 576 instead of 480 so in PAL the resolutions are:

    FULL D1 720x576
    HALF D1 352x576
    SVCD 480x576

  3. How can I resize the image? It shows in TMPG where I encode the avi files that the size will be 480x480, but I donīt know where I can change that.

Select the DVD template rather than the SVCD template, then before encoding click the settings button and cahnge the resolution to 352*480.

What bugster said but he forgot to say that you should select "CENTER (CUSTOM SIZE)" for the VIDEO ARRANGE METHOD. Then you can set the resolution to say something like 320x448 (for NTSC) or 320x528 (for PAL) and this will center the image with a BLACK BORDER around it and will help to reduce the affect of TV OVERSCAN.

Even if you do that you still have to do what bugster said and make sure you select 352x480 as the size in the template (which is on screen 4 of 5 in the WIZARD MODE).

Again use FitCD to determine exactly what size to use for the resize method. For instance 320x448/528 is only for a 4:3 source ... a widescreen source would have a different value for the height based on the aspect ratio. This is where FitCD comes into play in helping you to determine the correct resize values based on your particular source.

i've converted AVI file into MPEG using TMPGenc to change the size of the video cuz when i tried to burn it into a VCD using Nero 6 (without changing anything, just burnt it as is) the subtitles was cut-off......i guess that's what you call the "TV Overscan".....ok, so i've succeded changing the size but the thing now is......the Audio disappeared, i have no idea why did it happen.......was i doing it wrong?......anyway the file that i was trying to change the size was an AVI Anime Cartoon Movie encoded in DIVX format, i just wanted to change the size or avoid the TV Overscan so that i can watch the whole thing......

is there anybody out there who can help me out with this, i'd really appreciate it.....
