  1. Should I send my newly bought DVD+RW recorder back for a DVD-R recorder or one that supports both??

  4. I believe you will find the DVD-R has the greater compatibility across DVD players, although it is not 100% (more like 85-90%) while DVD+R falls into the 80-85% range. Most new players will accomodate either, however. 10-15% of players will not play any "R"ecordable media reliably.

IMHO -- the absolute best bet is to get a dual mode burner as different players will sometimes have a preference of 1 over the other. If you will be recording for mutliple players (yours, friends and family), the flexibility to record to everyones requirements can't be beat.

Most new standalone DVD players 'should' be able to accept either a DVD-R or a DVD+R (pretty much anything made in the last two years). If you are making them for yourself, try burning a disc and see what happens. If you are making DVD's for other people (e.g. converting home movies or something like that) then it is best to get a dual format burner.

As to which format is better.....its like saying "What is better, Apples or Oranges?".......some like apples, some like oranges and some don't care.
