I just got into reading about dvds - compression and the works. My question is what exact is divx. I mean, all I was able to really find (and understand) is that it can compress a video file to 10% of its original size, correct? So does that mean I can take a dvd quaility movie (from a dvd-9), compress it from its large size down to a file which would fit onto a dvd-r with out barely any quality loss? How exactly do you put it onto a dvd, does it have to be an image (such a for a dvdr) or what? does a dvd player capable of playing a divx just read it off a dvd like a file?
Thanks in advance
