  1. I am thinking of getting a Napa portable VCD player but don't know which one to buy. What do you people suggest? I read about a Napa Dav-510 that is a VCD/DVD/CD/MP3/CD-R/CD-RW player. Is that out yet? And where can I get it? Also, is there some sort of patch to make the Napa Dav-310,311 play DVDs as well?

    Thanks A Lot!

    Yes, it's out but very very hard to find - the best way is contacting NAPA Hong Kong directly and asking who their distrubutor is for your region.

    Regading your second question. No matter what software you would try to install, you won't be able to make the former players read DVD's. This is due to the fact that you would need a totally different type of hardware (lens etc.).

    I would suggest looking elsewhere for a portable vcd player. I own a dav311, which is their latest model. It plays MP3, vcd, it does all that it's supposed to. Except that it performs all of them at a barely acceptable rate. Mp3 playback is hissy, and vcd playback is jerky, atleast for my home made vcd's. As far as i know the dvd player is NOT out yet, as it states on Napa's site. Currently there is NO patch to make the dav311 read DVD's and I don't think there ever will be. Furthermore you might want to look into another player if it's svcd's you want to play, as the Napa supports only vcd 1.0 -> 2.0. If you still want to buy one, try http://www.pricewatch.com just DONT buy it from AccessMicro!!!!!!!!!!!

    Just found the info you were asking for (partialy): The distrubutor list is at

    @valzuniga

    My DAV311 plays mp3 fine. Maybe you should change the bitrates. I agree that the vcd playback is only jerky in dark movie parts - otherwise it's ok (but not excellent)
