Does anyone know which DVD-R's are the best to use with the lite-on 411s? Best and reasonably priced of course.
    Thanks in advance...Mike

  2. I have the Lite-On 401S and am curious as well. I can say that I have not had success with Memorex 4.7 GB 4X DVD+R discs in my Lite-On drive.

I have the same drive and have flashed it to FS0F firmware (FS0G is out now, but I haven't tried it).
I have had very good success with the Memorex 4x DVD+R (non-CMC) when burning with Instantcopy, TMPGenc DVDAuthor, and a trial copy of CopytoDVD.
I also have had great success burning the DVD+R and DVD+RW that came with the drive with the same software.
But absolutley no success burning anything with Nero 6.x.

  4. I just got TDK DVD+R's at the local Circuit City and for the n=1 it worked perfectly.

I too had success with the generic DVD+R that came with my drive and repeated success with the generic DVD+RW that came with it.

Where would I find if my Memorex DVD+R's are CMC or not? Maybe that is my issue?

I use a free tool called DVD Identifier. Download it - it will tell you whether the DVD's are CMC.

I've read that Memorex has their DVD R's made from different sources and that the DVD R+'s made by CMC are of low quality. Also, another way to tell is that the base spindle of the non-CMC ones is light grey.

I'm sure there are people here who know a whole lot more about all of this than I do, but at least its a start.

    Good luck!

Ritek G04 -R and any Ricoh disc should be safe bets for just about any burner out there.

CMC is the name of the company that manufactured the disks - Memorex just slaps their name on them.

I have had success burning with Pinnacle Instantcopy, TMPGEnc DVD Author, and CopytoDVD. I've had no luck burning DVD with Nero 6.

The question should be 'what media is best for your stand-alone DVD player'. I have the 401s and it pretty much works for every media I've tried. However that doesn't mean your stand-alone dvd player will play it. Stand alone DVD players are much more finicky than your lite-on writer.
