  1. hi....sorry if this is in the wrong forum but all the other forums said to not post about ripping.

ok, i would like to know what programs are the best for transcoding (on account of speed and quality and options)......the 3 programs i am wondering about are: DVDShrink, CloneDVD, DVD2One. (i already use clonedvd for transcoding and dvdshrink for splitting but i would like to only choose one program)

also, is the compression percentage the same for all the programs (there percentage scale is the same quality wise) because whenever i transcode the same movie (to make it fit onto one dvdr) using clonedvd and dvdshrink, they have different compression percentages even though i am transcoding the same sized file.

  2. neone out there?

also, i hear alot of people talk about encoding a movie than burning it in order to fit it onto one dvdr without any quality loss. how is this possible? and is it better than transcoding?

AFAIK, you can not compress video without losing quality.

Now, how acceptable the loss, is another thing entirely.

My advice is to use DVD Shrink. However, you need to have DVD Decrypter as well if u want to use Shrink. There are some flicks that DVD Shrink just will not rip. When that happens (which will be rarely) use DVD Decrypter in FILE mode. Then you can compress using shrink like usual. Problem solved.

I have no idea why people even use CloneDVD. I couldn't get it to copy an encrypted DVD, yet I see people go on and on about it all the time. Oh well...to each his/her own.

Personally, I use DVD Decrypter and DVD2One for my basic movie-only backups, but it works for full disc copies also. Tiz merely a matter of preference and performance on YOUR system.
