I am having trouble with the quality of backup dvd's. The process that I have used are:
    1. Rip w/DVD Decrypter
    2. Make copy with DVD Clone

    1. Rip w/DVDShrink
    2. Make Copy with Nero

Is there a better way I have a 1.7 with a celron processer could it be my computer

It's not your computer. What are your settings? Are you trying to copy all the extras and menus or just the movie?

What brand of media are you using, skipping and freezing is caused by cheap media or your player does not like certain brands of media

Are they skipping and freezing up randomly or near the end ?
    Sounds like a media issue.

What kind of burner do you have? I've used the CompUsa DVD-R 1x with my Pioneer 104 and my Lite-On 411s and both work fine on my home set-top DVD players. And what kind of DVD player is it skipping on ?

I don't have any experience with the Memorex 4x DVD-R.

  8. I would just try some other media and see if it fixes the problem.

Memorex-R isn't known to be that great (CMC). I have good results with Memorex+R (Ricoh) and Pioneer A06 burner with old JVC standalone and a Panasonic Combo unit that only supports play on DVD-R media.

    whats better +r or -r. I have micro advance 4x cd-burner

  10. depends on the media and the unit you want to play them on.

Generally speaking, CMC is not good media and it comes in both +R and -R. Also, generally speaking, Ricoh works fairly well, and it also comes in both formats. Do a search on your player unit under "DVD Players" on the left side of this site and see what media types and brands other people are using for you player.

  11. I would try some known good media like TDK as my guess it's the Memorex media. Or if you're burning at 4X try 2X plus try to kep the file size under 4GB and see if that helps.

  14. I can't find much info on
Officemax: Micro Advantage 4X universal DVD burner
but what I have found says it's a DVD+/-RW drive.

DVD+R discs can be recorded by any DVD+RW PC drive, except for the first generation of DVD+RW PC drives (manufactured before April 2002). First generation DVD+RW video recorders need a firmware upgrade – of which few are currently available (mid July 2002).

    Have you tried RW disks?

    Good luck.

Well you want to rule out the problem being MEDIA related.

So the best way to do that is to buy the best MEDIA there is.

I have little to no experience with DVD+R or DVD+RW as I use DVD-R

First make sure your stand alone DVD player supports DVD-R format.

You can look here to verify that: CLICK HERE

As far as DVD-R goes it is hard to beat anything that says MADE IN JAPAN. If you live in the USA try to get the FUJI 10-packs of DVD-R discs. These say MADE IN JAPAN and are Taiyo-Yuden media. That is about as good as you can get. The 5 and 10 packs of MAXELL are also MADE IN JAPAN and is an excellent brand though I find the MAXELL discs are harder to find that the FUJI discs which are almost always in stock these days at BEST BUY.

TDK is very good if it says MADE IN JAPAN.

In fact you probably see a trend here right? Not all FUJI DVD-R or TDK DVD-R discs say MADE IN JAPAN. That is KEY. It should say on the back of the package MADE IN JAPAAN - FABRIQUE A JAPON

The FUJI 10-packs at BEST BUY are $25.00 but worth every penny. I recently heard that WAL-MART is selling the same package at $20 so it might be worth a look for you to try there as well.

You can also buy 4x Taiyo-Yuden DVD-R discs on-line but most places have a minimum order of 50 or 100 discs at a time. In the long run though this is the cheaper way to go (per disc) than buying the FUJI 10-packs.
