  1. I am not new to converting. (I am no expert either)
I have been playing around for hrs on this and I have been unable to find any guides to help me.
I figured out that i can change it into a vcd first, then follow the guides but I am sure that i will loose quality.
The MPEG is 791 meg right now. If I change it to VCD using Nero Burning Rom, it will become about 520 meg.
There has to be a better way..
Using G-Spot the only info I can get is that this movie is MPEG2 Video and MPEG1 audio payload
    No other info on this!!
Every program I try to use will not do any conversions to a compliant video has lead me no where.
Nero actually tells me more about this film than G-Spot will.
Say's it is not compliant because it is 29.97 frames and 480x480 pic.
I would hate to change this to a vcd than to a DVD!!!
I really wanted to work on this over my short holliday..
How about a Christmass present to me!!! Please help
    Thanks,
    Doc

Okay, you have to make sure the mpeg file meets these criteria ]for PAL or NTSC depending on where you live.

Then you can use IfoEdit to convert the file into the DVD files you need to burn to a DVD. Look under Authoring at left for a guide you can use with program you have.
    Hello.

  3. Man, I am impressed with your response time!!!
    Thanks a million.
I came in here to edit my post and you have allready replied!!!
    MARRY Christmass to you man!!!
    Sweet.
I will give that a go.
I came back to tell the error I am getting with Virtual dub and you are allready on top!!
    I reall appreciate you

    So,
Virtual Dub say's "MPEG Import filter: pack synchronization error" (I dont know if that is relevant as you have replyied so quickly, But I want to give as much info here to get the help needed).
    Thanks a million.
I figured that it must be a simple problem as it is allready in MPEG2 format. It just isnt in a DVD usable format!!!
    Thank you again

Tommy that's good advice for an advanced user..but this guy..
I don't think IFOedit is right for him..
What you need is to understand what you are doing

There is no way to convert a "file" to either a DVD or a VCD

instead, we say...FILES can be used in a DVD or VCD if they are compliant
So what you need is to make your file DVD compliant..then you need to AUTHOR the DVD .. you can break it into two If you use TMPGenc to do a file converstion using the MPEG-2 template for DVD

if this is too complicated, just drag the clip into ULEAD MOVIE FACTORY DVD LAB or TMPGDVD AUTHOR...you will be able to transcode the FILE here as the program will need to convert to complaint before creating your DVD PROJECT!..REMEMBER, you'll need this next step after the conversion anyway

  5. I have used TMPGenc DVD author before.
I am not a COMPLETE neewbe but I am stummped here.
I have made AVI to DVD a few times.
I understand that they need to be authored.
It seems that the file I have is not compliant. So i guess thats what i need to be schooled on!
Every time I try to use TMPGenc to make it compliant, I get the microsoft fatal error / send error to microsoft pop up!!
I assumed that this was the wrong application to make compliant.
Is there another application I can try other than TMPGenc to do this with?
I have always used TMPGenc and Virtual Dub, but neither will work on this film!!
Thanks for the great and fast feedback guys

Yes please try FLASKMPEG with the BB mpeg-2 conversion
or try to open and resave in MPG2VCR, adjusting the parameters to DVD compliance and RENAMING the resultant file

  7. I have to tell you that I have requested help in here over a year ago and certainly didnt get results like this!!
    I really appreciate you.
I did try the ifoedit, and it was not what i needed. Looks like a usefull program though. I will play with it some..
So let me make sure i understand this..
With Flask with the bb MPEG-2 "or" ect..
There are two different methods for me to try.
I have to go to familys house for Christmass lunch so I cant give it a shot right now, But I will go at it in a few hrs.
I hope you will be around if I have any problems!!!!
If not, thanks for the early/holliday help..

MPEG2VCR by Womble might be the better choice

FLASK sometimes errors like you say TMPG does

Womble's MPEG2VCR is also not free, tho'

    Good luck

If you use TMPGEnc Plus to edit, it will not re-encode your file, so it will not make a difference.

FYI, avicodec will give info on mpeg files.

An mpeg2 at 480x480 is an SVCD mpeg file, it is not DVD compliant but if you use it as is some DVD players will still play it, particularly if they already play SVCD. Try SVCD2DVD.

If you want to re-encode then you can use Virtualdub-mod which accepts mpegs then framserve to TMPGEnc; or DVD2avi which will create an M2V which TMPGEnc will accept as well.

Look up SVCD to DVD under format conversion in the guides section for detailed instructions.

    Hope that helps.

  16. I am a newbie to this forum, but I have been researching this since 02/01/03 and this is what I came up with. I use Honestech MPEG Encoder 5.0 to encode any file to DVD Format. It does the Audio and Video for you, very easy tool. You can get this at Honestechnology.com for $49.00. Then I use TMPGEnc DVD Author or DVD X Maker to do the authoring and burning to DVD. I like the DVD X Maker the best. The step by step wizard makes it real easy. Both are excellent programs though. They make excellent DVD's. Hope this helps you. Oh you can find a link for these last too programs in the tools section on this site.
