  1. Hi All
Wondering what's the best all round does everything for very little money machine at the moment in the uk ?

Would like it to play vcd, svcd, mp3 all on cdr or cdrw and of course dvd support would be essential - preferrably dvd+r and dvd+rw. Wondered how good a bargin you can get at the moment ?

Which are the bargin machines out there ? With a few suggestins of the best bargins I can happily search through the individual comments in the DVD player section....

Cheers all and a happy new year.
Never give up trying, you're almost always nearly there.

  2. I just picked up the Pioneer DV-250 at Wal-Mart here in FL for $88. It was the only one left and I did a quick check in the player reviews before I ran back down and bought it. Seems to play everything I have just great. VCD, SVCD, and DVDs so far. I wanted something that would play DVD-r for when I get my Sony writer.

APEX 1201. $54.95 anytime at Circuit City. It has played everything I put in it, including MPEG2's at non-standard sizes. Forums say it does DVD-r and DVD+r, as well as DVDRW.

It has composite and S-video out (I can't really tell the difference on my 27 inch TV, so that's pretty clean output!), stereo out, and DTS out. No optical out(not a big deal). Since my stereo is only AC3, and I play a lot of SVCD's (with downmixed AC5.1 sound)....it's perfect.

I'll probably pick up a second one for the bedroom!

  5. Apex 1200. I bought both my kids one for Christmas for $58 each from Sears. It plays everything. It plays stuff my new $150 Samsung P421 progressive scan won't even think about playing. The Samsung is going back and I'm buying the Apex 5131 - 3 disc model at Sams for $84.

I've tried VCDs, SVCDs, MP3, and photo CDs in the Apex and they all worked perfect.

  10. The cyberhome 300 is availible all over the place and can play everything even raw MPEG1/2. Just don't leave it on overnight becuase then it heats up and won't play anything.
