  1. I was wondering has anyone ever changed a face of a cd/dvd drive?

I have a dvd recorder that I was thinking of buying a dead unit and switching the plates if this was at all possible.

Any other sugestion about how to change the appearance of my white player?

    Thanks

I did this at work. I unscrewed the old one, screwed in the new one. Just that easy.

  5. g_shocker182,

I was thinking that except for the fact that they nly sell the unit it white,if I have to send the unit back for some reason and it's painted they may start asking questions.

    tgpo,

Whenyou say unscrew do you mean just unscrew the plastic the parts or do you have to open up the metal case .

    Thanks

For me I had to take the drive out of the computer, unscrew a few screws, pry the front face plate off, then you can pait it and reattach it. No need to open the metal case on the drive model I had.

  7. tpgo,

I thought you actually swapped the white for black. Did you paint your too.

Great link Freestyler . With results like that I may just try the paint idea instead of buying a dead unit with a black face.

OH, I thought you were wanting to paint yours. I didn't paint mine here, I swapt out a black plate with the white one. We had two identical drives here. The black one was dead, so I swapt out the face plate.

  9. tgpo,

My original question was asked about swapping it out like you did, and you did answer it well in the first post and on the second one you mentioned paint . So I got confused. I wish I actually had a dead unit but there is someone on ebay selling dead black dvd rom units on ebay and he lives near me, so the shipping shouldn't be too much. The only problem I see is I want swap out the white face plate on a dvdr +/- drive.

I am really not sure what I am going to do now that I saw the link that freestyler put up.

    Thanks everyone for your help

To tell you the truth I didn't even get the drive yet ...LOL. So it's brand new. Thanks for the links though.

If I remember correctly Mrs. Claus is giving it to me tommorrow....LOL 8)

For Christmas my wife wanted to buy my 6 year old a computer, desk, and a chair. I said why don't I just build a new one for myself and give him my old one (450MHZ). I have been using my (1.4MHZ) laptop as my main computer for a while now, but It doesn't have a dvd burner.

The outcome was good she said yes. I told her we will even save money this way.

The reason I asked about switch the face plate is because the case and dvd drive I ordered are both black with siver. I do think the white dvd writer will stand out like a sore thumb.

  12. When I read that quickly thought you had a 450MHz computer desk

1.4Mhz Laptop, that must be sluggish

  13. Craig Tucker,

I don't know who's worse me or you ...LOL

    No it's not a 450mhz desk ...LOL

I didn't realize I wrote mhz instead of Ghz, and not only did I say that wrong but the laptop is actually 1.8+ (amd). How stupid do I seem ...
