I've been using Recode in 2-pass mode, great results. All of a sudden the option to select 2-pass mode is greyed out? Any ideas about why?????

I think I read that it only allows 2 pass mode if the percentage quantization goes below a certain level. I think there is a place to change it.

The only option I can find about 2-pass mode deals with digital MP4 encoder. The odd thing is I backedup Aliens on friday and I went to make a second copy of the same disk and the option for 2-pass mode that was there on friday is now gone!

Very odd,I let Recode analize two movies I had on my HD that had already been compressed to 4.37Gb's. In both cases Recode offered the 2-pass option but not on Aliens which I had already compressed in 2-pass mode with Recode. I ripped a new disk to my HD and Recode is offering the 2-pass option on it.
It appears that Recode does not offer the 2-pass option on a movie you previously compressed in 2-pass mode.

Do you know where recode saves the information? I'm running WindowsME. DVD Shrink saves it's files to Windows\application data.
The movie I ripped to the HD that Recode allowed the 2-pass option,I let Recode commpress it. When I re-loaded the directory the 2-pass option was greyed-out. It seems definite that Recode only offers 2-pass once,so making a second copy with 2-pass is not possible.

  8. ...so making a second copy with 2-pass is not possible.
It is not possible (unless you delete the analysis files), but also not necessary.
The first of the two passes only analyses the disc.
The analysis is then saved, so the subsequent backups only need the one pass; the processing will be based on the results of the first analysis, which will not vary not matter how many times you'd analyse the same disc.

If you still want to delete the previous analysis files, they are in a hidden folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ahead\Nero Recode
