  1. I've ripped a movie to my Hd using dvd decrypt, but now when i use dvd shrink on it, the option for deep analysis is greyed out. I've been able to do deep analysis on other dvds that i've backed up, but i notice sometimes this option is unavailible for other dvds. Any ideas? Im running win98se on a p3 running at 800mHz.

    thanks!

DA would be greyed because SHrink thinks (or may have) already done a DA on this particular movie/compilation. you need to go where Shrink stores that DA info and delete that entry so it can do DA again for that title. I thinks it's somewhere like Documents and Settings\(your name)\My Documents\Shrink or something like that.

  4. hi people.

    thakns for the replies.

i've checked those directories and found nothing corresponding to application data for dvdshrink, in fact my c:/Documents and settings folder is completely empty.

refresh my memory but i cant find an installed folder for dvdshrink3.0 beta. did this have to be installed or was it simply unzipped and ready to go? I have multiple partitions on my computer and shrink is currently operating out of d: drive while my os resides on c: drive. not sure if this is why nothing exists for shrink in documents and settings.

so what ur saying is that once shrink has run thru a movie once with da, it never needs to run thru it again? the reason i am doing more than one run thru is that i burn the dvd to +rw disc and check to c how the compression turns out b4 making a permanent burn. first, i'll i might try burning with some extras. if the pic quality is not what i want then i'll just do a movie only transcode. in either case tho, once i run thru DA once, shrink saves those settings regardless of what configuration i use for the next transcode (ie with or without extras)?

  5. Hi all.

"i've checked those directories and found nothing corresponding to application data for dvdshrink, in fact my c:/Documents and settings folder is completely empty."

vrdvd, I'm affraid you weren't told the folder is hidden.
You need to have "show hidden files/folders" enabled in Windows.

"so what ur saying is that once shrink has run thru a movie once with da, it never needs to run thru it again?"
Yep. Not only that, but "partial" analysis will be saved, and any subsequent analysis of the same DVD will be appended to the previous one.
Can be useful if you don't have the time to do a Deep analysis in one go (obviously, for best results it is recommended to finish the analysis, whether in one pass or more) .

  6. I had this same "problem" although, i dont think its really a problem. Recode also does this. Check that folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\" Their should be some files, delete them or cut/paste them somewhere else for backup.

Is there a way to do more than 2 passes with DVDShrink or Recode2? Lots of people say CCE is the best encoder, and ive read people do 5-7 passes. Does this really help the quality in a huge way? How many passes do you have to do to get the "most bang" ?
