  1. Hi all,
I have a lite on 411s dvd burner and I am trying to make dvd backups of movies I own...however so far all I am making are coasters. The only format that has worked so far is the +rw format. My Panasonic RP 56 is supposed to do all the formats but so far I have used DVD X Copy Xpress to do movies with dvd -r format and they are coasters. Am I confused about my player being able to play these.

I went into the dvd players section and I see others with the same Panny are able to get these to work with no problem. So far the media that works is just the Fuji +RW and nothing else so far. The Fuji +r doesn't even work but the +RW does....very weird. I even used DVD decrypter and Shrink and burned with Nero only to get the same results.

  2. Try again, using a decent Ritek disk.

If your RW's work OK, it's obviously not your method ... probably your media.

Yes. Just because your player plays + or - it may not like the brand of disc.

In addition to looking up your Player, look at member/user/owner info under your DVD Writer and DVD Media to confirm what combinations others have had problems and success with.

Welcome to what use to be my world of making coasters. Keep a simple log of what works and what fails. Check what media is compatible with your burner, turn off any other programs while burning. Try disabling any antivirus stuff too, while you burn.

  5. I am having the same problem with my Lite On 411S. I have tried CloneDVD, DVDDecrypter, and Alcohol 120% and none so far have been able to make a backup of my DVD's. I can make a working DVD with Memorex+R media when I use the software that was included with the drive (Sonic DVD or something) so I know the media works but so far, only with that software and that software isn't capable of ripping and backing up image files. Has Lite On gone downhill since their days of having the only CD burner on the market that was capable of backing up Safedisk2 and Securom New? If anyone has a method figured out for making backups using a Lite On 411S please help.

A LOT of peo0ple screw up Nero, especially 6.x.x.x . You have to drag the files into the VIDEO_TS folder, and not next to them. I've seen several of these from friends who immediately smacked their foreheads.

Try IMG Tools classic and make an ISO image, then burn that, it's more foolproof than straight Nero.

  7. Hmmmm... seems to be working perfectly now and I made no changes... I'm still running the drive as my IDE secondary slave using the same Memorex media, although, now, thinking about it, I think the DVD that I was trying to backup didn't have a region (is that possible) and I put in a DVD that was region 1 and ever since then I haven't had a problem (using DVD Decoder) or perhaps it's a fluke and the first 5 disks in my spool of Memorex 4X's were bad. oh, another thing, I found out (using DVD Decoder) that Memorex is the same thing as Ricoh. good to know since in the Lite On 411S manual, Ricoh is listed as compatible while Memorex is not. Anyway, if anyone else is having a problem backing up a sort-of unknown DVD that's hasn't specified a region, try specifying a region and see if that helps. Thanks to everyone who sent a reply. I appreciate it.
