  1. I want to convert an XVID back to DVD and am having trouble figuring out what aspect ratio should be used. I have tried various software i.e TMPGENC , CCE and mainconcept.
I have followed guides on dvdrhelp.com site using tmpgenc and CCE.

My main problem is that i would like to be able to get the dvd to play back on a 4:3 tv and a widescreen TV whilst maintaining the proper aspect ratio. As if i had bought the DVD from a shop.
I understand that i will have black bars but what ever settings i use i always seem to have much larger black bars than if it where a bought DVD. The same when playing in 4:3 the aspect ratio never looks right.

I believe it has somthing to do with the aspect ratio but some guides will say use 1:1 some 16:9 and some 4:3. i seem unable to find a proper answer as to what should be used and when.
I don't under stand the 1:1 part of it either and am assuming it is because XVID do not contain a DAR.

If anybody can put me out of my misery i would be very grateful

I can't vouch for playback on 4:3 TV but I always use the following:

    1. Source aspect 1:1
    2. Output aspect 16:9
    3. Video arrange method 'Full Screen Keep Aspect Ratio 2'

For a 16:9 source there should be no black bars on a 16:9 TV, for a 2.35:1 source (e.g Star Wars, etc.) there will be small balck bars.

    Hope this helps

  4. Thanks for the reply's.

I have already read the guide which was posted.
Whilst i do not understand this fully I think i get the general picture of what should be happening.

What i Really need to know is settings for say TMPGENC (which has already been posted - thanks) and CCE.

As said different guides seem to give different settings

    once again thanks so far.
