im using smart ripper dvd2avi then encode with TMPGEnc
pc stats 1.4gig athlon tnt2 soundblaster live 13gig hard drive
I have done many dvd's 2 vcd's before and now would like to have chapters and better sound like 5.1 anyone help me out?

5.1 audio simply cannot be done on a vcd or svcd, its not supported in the standards. All you can do is downmix dolby digital down to dolby surround and if played back on the proper equipment you will get dolby prologic. dvd2avi has a downmixer although probably isnt the absolute highest quality available, its probably more than sufficient.
It is extrememly easy to put chapters into your vcds and svcds but they work slighly different than dvd chapters. All they are, are entrypoints so there is no way to code time into them so if you jump to chapter 5, let it play through chapter 10 and then hit next, you will go to chap 6. Its a small inconvenience and one that really rarely pops during normal viewing. I-Author, video pack 4.0, and vcdimager can create chapters. Just click on the AUTHOR link, it explains everything.
