This happened to me too. A couple of things to check on.
    1. Make sure you have downloaded and installed the Quicktime Mpeg-2 encoder component for your current version of Quicktime. This could prove difficult as of Monday, because they found a time bomb bug in that component that turned it off after 12-15-03. See this thread https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=193795
    2. Make sure that in the Tools tab you have "Use Quicktime" checked as your MP-2 encoder.

This worked for me! Hope it helps

hmmm, i donīt wonīt to pay for such things as "mpeg2 encoders" i would like to use the "encode with mplayer" option - this one is in most tutorials. but after a complete reinstall of ffmpeg and all this stuff around, i still doesnīt konvert .vob to svcd

maybe i should post my "errorcode" to mayor?

I don't recall using the phrase "pay for it" 8)
Most of the threads you'll see associated with this problem are solved when using the quicktime mpeg-2 encoder. I imagine it has something to do with how OS X sees any video types as quicktime by default. But yes, Major would have a better explanation.

Since I'm on a work computer, no chat. Sorry.
You can email me at jwashburn@flintco.com if you like.
Here's what happens with ffmpegx. You choose the .vob file to encode. You want to make sure you have "keep elementary streams" checked in the tools section. Once the program does its thing, you have one m2v (video only)file and one mp2 (audio only) file. You then have to author the files. This is located in the tools tab. Once completed, you have a .img file and a .toc file. You can burn the .img file with toast, and delete the .toc files. There you go.
