I am using my PC for playback of all kinds of movies, because I thought this way I would have less compatibilty issues. But my recent experiences proof me wrong. In fact almost any video-format somehow leads to compatibilty problems (SVCD-Playback, DivX with multiple languages, etc.).

No concerning the results of SVCD2DVD I have the following problems:

    1. My biggest problem is, that windows media player does not seem to get audio out of my SVCD2DVD-Results. I think it has something to do with the mpeg-audio-stream. I have AC3-Filter 0.70b installed and set to SPDIF-Out. Playing Audio-CDs, MP3, DVDs, SVCDs, VCDs and DivX seems to work (all codecs are installed by ACE-Mega-codec-pack). But what does not work is playing DVDs with MPEG-Audio-streams. I think next time I will try to create SVCD-DVDs with AC3-Audio-Streams by using ffmpeg, but what can I do now to playback the SVCD-DVDs I already created ? Is there any way to get windows media player to play back my SVCD-DVDs with MPEG-Audio-streams ? (btw.: WinDVDs does give me sound with those DVDs, but I don´t want to use WinDVD because of other playback problems that tool has).

    2. Because of the audio-problems I discribed above I tried to install and de-install some codec-packs (without any success), like ACE-mega-codec-pack and K-Lite-Codec-Pack. At least I got the DVDs to be played in windows media player (with no sound, as I said), but the video was totally distorted. The movie was only shown in the upper left part of the window of my TV-Screen and you could still see the title-menu-picture on rest of the screen. Now that I installed and de-installed those codec-packs again and again I am finally not even able anymore to play the SVCD-DVDs. When I now select the movie from the title menu (which is shown correctly) I am getting an error saying something abot a wrong memory address. The funny thing aboput this is that Media Player Classic 6.4.7.2 does play the movie correctly, but does have the same sound-problem (no sound with MPEG-Audio-Streams)

So what kind of codec or thing do I have to install that those movies will be played correctly with windows media player ? (All other things like SVCDs, VCDs, DivX and regular DVDs are already played quiet well).

    Thanx for any hint.

    Greetings

    Dear FantasticN,

Codec packs, I am told, are hell on wheels. Especially more than one of them successively. All you wrote sounds like you have completely screwed up your system.

So you might find some relief at http://www.inmatrix.com/articles/mediasetup3.shtml, especially under The Last Resort, and then look at the preceding pages of this FAQ or Guide for what to install and what not, and how, and in what sequence. You might even decide to stop using this horrible Windows Media Player and use ZoomPlayer instead, which is freeware.

    Hope this helps..

Many thanx, Callan !!! It worked quiet well. Now it seems I am able to play any Video and Audio Format with the Windows Media Player 9.0. I need that player because I use myHTPC with media player plug-in. That looks like a profssional media-pc-desktop, is easy to configure and remote-controlable. Now I can sit back in my chair, insert any kind of media (DivX/XVid, DVD, SVCD/VCD, Audio-CD, MP3-CD, etc.), press just one button on the remote and it will start playing. Even the SVCD2DVD-results are now working very well - Audio & Video !

So if anyone else has problems with that, this is what I did:

    1. I downloaded ZoomPlayer and the Filter-Reset-Batch that it offered under the link above.

    2. I then de-installed all Codec-Packs and DVD-Player-Software that I found in my system.

    3. Then i started Zoom Player, went to "Player Options / Filter Control / Management / Registered Filter Manager". There I selected all shown filters and "unregistered" them.

    4. Then I restarted my system, so it was abosolutely "clean"

    5. After reboot I installed the ACE-Mega Codec Pack 5.95 Pro (You can find it via google.com) with the "professional"-option selected. This way I have all the codecs installed I need.

    6. Afterwards I also installed the new DivX 5.1.1 Codec, because this version is newer than the one listed in ACE Mega Codec Pack.

    7. After that I installed Cyberlink PowerDVD 5.6.0.3 (newest release), because - as I found out - the MPEG2-Decoder that comes with Cyberlink PowerDVD seems to be the only one that decodes nearly every Video correctly. Other MPEG2-decoders, like Intervideo WinDVD and the Elecard MPEG2-Decoder, e.g. distorted the video of the SVCD2DVD-Results at least on my TV-Output.

    8. Then I restarted my system again

    9. Then I went to "Registered Filter"-option in Zoom Player again (see above) and disabled the "Elacard MPEG2-Filter" manually. So the system will use Cyberlink MPEG2-Filter to decode the DVD-Video-Stream (reason: see point 7).

    10. I started Windows Media Player, went to "Options / DVD" and activated th SPDIF-Out. If you do not see this option, just insert a DVD, start playing it with media player and go to this options-dialog again while the DVD is beeing played.

    11. I was done. Everything works fine right now. All kind of media is played correctly when inserted and Windows Media Player is started (or - as I do - myHTPC´s Windows Media Player-Plug-In is used).

    Another important thing:
Do not install the new WinDVD 5.3.05.20. When you install it, you get problems playing DVDs (and also the SVCD2DVD-Results) in Windows Media Player and possibly in other DVD-Player-Software. Windows Media Player starts trying to play the DVD, but you just get red exclamation marks on each title set and finally a message, saying there would be something wrong with your video adapter (which - of course - is not the reason for the problem).

    Greetings
