You can ask for a DVD decoder card to one of your friends.
You know ? those Dxr2 and Dxr3 Creative cards with S-video and RCA output.
Plug your VHS to the card output and play your video. ( it's a natural way to record home videos to VHS, this card acts, like a normal HOME DVD player, cause it don't use DirectDraw or DirectX overlay.
If you don't know anyone with this type of card, then ask for those common geforce 2 with TV Out incorporated, and record them using that output. Your can play your videos using PowerDVD and set it to full-screen. It doesn't look so bad. But the TV perimeter is not set to full-screen. So you will have to deal with black borders in your tape.
Your parents won't see that, cause this black borders does not appear on the TV Screen. -

I take it the footage is on the computer via some sort of video capture correct? What form is the video in now? What kind of camcorder do you have (digital or analog) and does your computer have a video card with a TV out connection?
Anyone ... myself included ... will need more info on what you've done and your equipment before help can be given.
