  1. I posted a few days ago and since then I've learned some more aobut what I wanna do, I'm trying to put 102 shows onto blank DVD, and I'd like to get about 7 or 8 shows onto each one.
Since I posted last, I've dl'ed the TMPEG Plus 2.5, and I captured 7 shows thru my Showbiz 2 that comes with my computer, and then I ran all the shows thru the TMPEG Plus, that took around 8 hrs or so to finish. After I was done with that, I decided I wanted to edit out the commercials so I bought the Womble software and I edited out the commercials for the 7 shows.
I don't know if I did this right or not, but to find out the total file size of all 7 shows of the shows combined, I went to "My Documents" then "My Videos" (where the shows are saved) then I right clicked on the area and went to "Properties" and it said that the size is 6.21 GB, and I was told that anything over 4.38 GB is too much. What do you think I'm doing wrong? Should I run the shows back thru the TMPEG with the commericals edited out? I'm totally stuck on how to make the GB sizes smaller..

By lowering the (average) bit rate. That's the only thing affecting DVD mpg file size.

  3. How do I do that? Through Tmpeg? What should I set the rate to?

Yes, in TMPGEnc. What bitrate to use is determined by A) length of movie and B) what size you want. Use a bit rate calculator
    to calculate the bit rate.

If you use a frame size of 352x240 which is roughly VHS quality, with an average bit rate of around 1500 or so you should be able to fit 6 hours of video onto a single 4.7gb DVD. How acceptable the quality of that will be for you is dependant on a lot of things, but the quality of your source is the most determining factor. If you are copying from VHS tapes, the rule is pretty much garbage in, garbage out. If you are capturing it yourself, cap at a higher frame size and then resize it smaller when you encode it. Using a frame size and bit rate such as this you should be able to get about a dozen of your half hour episodes onto a single disc.

  9. I dl'e dthe bit rate calculator and it said error loading the java applet and uit wont open. I have the TMPEG open now, what tab or setting or whatever do i have to go to , to lower the rate?
Under mpeg setting this is what i have-
    Stream Type- MPEG-2 Video
    Size- 352x480
    Aspect Ratio- 4:3 Display
    Frame Rate- 29.97 fps
    Rate Control Mode- Constant Quality
Profile &Level - Main Profile & Main level
    Video Format- NTSC
    Encode Mode- Interlace
    YUV Format- 4:2:0
    DC Component Precision- 8 bits
Motion Search precision- motion estimate search (fast)
Under the advance tab on MPEG SETTINGS I have--
    Video Source type- interlace
    field order- top field first
    Source Aspect Ratio- 4:3 Display
And under the audio tab i have-
    Bitrate- 256
This is for TMPEG PLUS 2.5 , does these settings look right? Should I re-encode my shows/ I did so before I edited out the commercials

  10. i was doing some messing around on the TMPEG Plus jsut now and I have some q's,. that might help me out big time
I got to the bitrate settings and each show I'm making is 30 min,m well i think around 23 with the commercials cut out, what should I set the bit rate to to be able to give myself enough room for like 7 shows or so on each blank dvd? I also noticed it said start eoncoding immediately or bring up another project for encoding or something like that, i assume that it will encode each show seperately, when i did it before it encoded all 7 shows toghetr and it took like 8 hrs to do, how should I do it?

I'm supposing you're using one of TMPGEncs DVD wizards.
On the 3rd step, click the "Other settings" button.
In the new dialog that pops up, under the Vide tab, you can set different kinds of encoding options. I suggest you use 2 pass VBR, then set average bit rate to a rate (by pressing the "Setting" button next to the drop down) that allows you to fit the movie time you want in 4.37 GB, min like 300, max like 8000.
Set motion search precision to High (Slow)
If your system isn't Java capable, find a calc that works.
