  1. Hi all

I am totally new to this game so go easy on me.

I have just bought a DV camcorder (Canon MV600) and am starting to get a little bit confused about all the software which I need.

My original plan was to use Pinnacle Studio 8 to capture, edit and then render to svcd then burn with Nero.

After speaking to someone who knows a little bit about the subject he recommended capturing and editing with MGI Videowave then rendering this to an AVI file then using TMPGenc to convert to SVCD then using Nero to burn. The reason he gave for this was Videowave was personal preference for ease of use but to save as an AVI and using TMPGenc because it gives better results.

Does this sound correct I thought with all the info been digital you would not get better results just different ways of doing it?

Sorry if this has all been answered before.

    Cheers

    KD

I don't use Pinnacle Studio 8 or MGI Videowave for my capping and converting, but I would say try it your way and if you find it easy and get good results stick with it. If you don't like the results try another way. Just becuse someone says "my way is better" that dosn't mean it is.

Some ways are 'better', that means some are easier for the user and some give technically superior results. I'm a frim believer in teh KISS principe (Keep it Simple, Stupid). Try something user friendly, if after some time it doesn't quite do all you want , upgrade to something more complex. Being new, you don't know for sure what you really need. Don't drop a lot of $$$ because the box says it will do everything, there is enough free or virtually free software to help you produce AVCD's from a DV cam.

  4. If you already have Pinnacle Studio 8, give it a try. For most users is the easiest (user-friendly) program to work with. Some users have trouble using this software with their configuration. It works for me and I use it for capturing, editing, encoding and authoring... Only burning is done by Nero.

I you don't have anything... Download trial versions of all of them and play with it a little.... Don't buy anything before you know that it is right tool for you.

  6. Hi KD2

I just bought the canon mv600 and need some help.
I bought a firewire card and this came with ULead as the capturing software, after installing card, drivers and software I connected my camcorder and capturing starts and stops after about 4 seconds giving errors such as "turn on the camcorder","put camcorder in play(VCR)mode" and "check cable".
Then I tried to download some freeware software such as WinDV and DVIO but almost the same thing happens, capturing starts and stops after few seconds.
I assume that if there is something wrong either with the card or with the cable capturing would not even begin.
    Can someone please help?

    Thanks
    Jesmond
