Have found a bug which has forced me to revert to 6.0.0.15.

After upgrading to 6.0.0.19 it was no longer possible to burn a working DVD Video if I included extra folders other than the standard VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS.

My example is a slideshow DVD, where as well as the DVD Video content, i want to have a folder with all of my photos in JPG format as well so I can easily grab in future.

This was no drama in 6.0.0.15. In 6.0.0.19, however, the end result does not play on a DVD Player (works OK using PC software to play it). I know it is not a media problem as I made 2 DVD-R coasters before trying with a DVD+RW - all same result. If I left off the extra folder, all would be fine. So I reverted back to 6.0.0.15 and will stay there until they fix.

It is simply twice as big as it needs to be.

Did you report it to Ahead?
    Hello.

Actually, I found out something similar except I had to return to 5.5.10.50 before I got my DVD VIDEO to work after wasting two discs. It played fine on the HDD and apparently burnt without errors from Nero (no coasters), but errored out on playback in Powerdvd.

I burnt the same files using 5.5.10.50 and voila it worked! Apparently, v6 has some bugs

Will be reporting soon, but I must say I was a little disenchanted with the cryptic response I got last time I reported a problem to Ahead. I think something was lost in the English-German translations.

Mind you, they did address the problem a couple of releases down the track, so it is worth going to the effort.

EDIT: Now reported to Ahead. We shall see if the response this time is instructions on how to remove the software from the registry (which was the response last time when I reported a VCD menu problem).

But Nero doesn't HAVE any bugs! Haven't you been reading this forum? Every time I say that Nero is a buggy piece of poop (for DVD Video, that is - for everything else it rocks) I get flamed 8 ways to Tuesday by a dozen people that tell me I'm imagining things.

So I'm telling you - Nero cannot POSSIBLY have any bugs.

  7. Mmm, I could not continue a multisession CD with Nero v 6.0.0.15. I had to go back to 5.10.20. The multisession CD was started with 5.10.20 version.

  8. To date never had problems buring with 6.0.0.19, I use DVDShrink to convert and Nero DVD Video to create. have completed 8-10 burns without any problems on Generic DVD+R's. Played back with PowerDVD and WinDVD and on a Panasonic DR32 as well as a Panasonic Portable

    Bud,

Were you using DVD-video to create your DVDs? Or one of the other options (eg, DVD-ROM UDF/ISO)?

I use the DVD-Video, when NERO opens it will show the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders, I click on the VIDEO_TS folder, I then get a blank screen, I drag all the DVD files that DVDSrink created into the blank screen. All that's left is to burn to my DVD+R. Comes out perfect everytime. This has worked on my desktop as well as my Laptop that has an external burner. Not sure why they say there is a bug, don't seem to be any in the method I use. I have also showed this to a friend of mine and he also has been getting very good results.

    Bud,

That is precisely what I did...twice...and none of the discs would play, but would work under 5.5 with no changes. That is why I am saying the cause must be 6.

  12. Have you tried a different media....I know sometimes folks have problems with the type of media they use. I also remember a Nero patch for version 6 somewhere on this site, not sure where, you may try to search and see if you can find that an install the patch. I seem to remember I did that also.............you may have to go to the Nero web site to get the patch..it's some kind of fix for version 6. Hope this helps.

That is all fine and dandy, but that is not the problem.

Try adding a folder and files within (using a RW disk so you don't get a coaster) to accompany your standard VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders. Eg. "PHOTOS" and add some JPG's to it.

Will work nicely in PowerDVD and likely other PC software, but does not work so well (ie. at all) on the Pioneer and Teac players I tried (and possibly others - no point pursuing once I identified the cause).

Yes, I tried the patch before that, did not seem to help.

It could not be the media, because I burned several good discs after I reverted and, in fact, I just had another good burn.

I am going to have to wait until 6 is more mature.

    FWIW,

When I converted my Nero from 5.x to 6.0.0.5 I experienced a similar problem. I would burn UDF/ISO 1.02 in 5.x and all was good. When I made the transition to 6 the same method produced costers every time. I then chose DVD-Video and the problem disappeared. I have compared the working DVD's to the Non working DVD's with a program that reads the media information and could not find any difference. Can't remember the name of the program (At work now) but was one used frequently recomended here on the forum. To this day I still have no idea why this occured. You might want to try using UDF/ISO 1.02 (With an RW Disk) and see if that helps.

    Cheers,

It's an error code that only Ahead knows and you will have to buy Nero 7 to find out. :P

  19. What are SECRETS???
It has to do with encryption and is a M$ limitation, but in my case what I was trying to burn was already decrypted and ran fine with powerdvd from the HDD.

For anyone who cares, this problem seems to have been resolved in 6.0.0.28 as I just did a quick test on a RW and all is well when played on actual DVD Player. Yippee!

Pity I can't seem to find a version history log for Nero anymore that tells me they consciously addressed the problem. Oh well. It works again, so I won't complain.

  24. Before you toss Nero out, give the latest version 6.0.0.28 a try.

On Doom9 we discussed a similar theme.

    http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=65973

As pissed as I am at Ahead for not catching a bunch of compatibility bugs earlier, I think that they are addressed in this new release.
