My first attempt at capture, author, burn to DVD went great--with of all things, using MyDVD 4.5 and Windows Movie Maker. I'm trying to take the great advice given me in my previous posts, and trying different methods.

Now for the problem. I have Nero 5.5.10.28, but I cannot find options to burn to DVD, only to VCD or CD. The LordSmurf guide indicates the DVD option should be there. Does this mean I need to buy the Nero MPEG2 plug-in before I can burn to DVD with Nero, or is there another way. I ask this b/c my saved video is already encoded to MPEG2. Thanks.[/url]

Earlier versions of Nero didn't support DVD writers, later versions do. I can't remember at exactly which version they started to support DVD but I use 5.5.10.35 and it certainly does. When you start a new compilation project you get the screen that has the various different modes you want to record in (lots of icons on the left side of the box, for CD-ROM (ISO), Audio CD, mixed mode CD, Etc). Above this is a small box that will say CD in it but with a drop down arrow next to it. Click the arrow and switch to DVD. If this box doesn't exist, Nero isn't aware that you have a DVD writer or your version of Nero is too old. Re-install the later version (the upgrade is a free download from the Ahead website).

It could be b/c I just installed my DVD burner, which wasn't present during the Nero install. According to the site, the 5.5.10.28 "should" have the DVD burner recognition. I may try to uninstall and then re-install Nero. Thanks.

If your version of Nero came with your CD-R, then it is probably an OEM version that will only recognize the drive that it came with and you will need to upgrade to the full version before it will recognize any other devices.

Nope--it is the full download version. I just downloaded the 551042 update and still no recognition for DVD burning. Any ideas GREATLY appreciated.
