I'm a newbie at this video stuff so forgive me if I don't have the lingo down. I've been trying for weeks now to use quicktime pro (and even compressor) to take an mpeg2 file and reencode it as mpeg2 but at a lower bit rate. The quality I get is very good (better than results from experimenting with dvd2onex) and I thought it would be a simple matter to put everything back together with DVD studio pro. However, no matter what I try, the reencoded video is shorter than the original and is out of sync with the audio when I put it back together.

I'm guessing that I could separate the six channels of the AC3 file and use quicktime pro to add it "scaled" to the video and then extract the audio and put it back together with a.pack, but there must be better way. I must be doing something wrong in the reencoding step, but I've run out of ideas.

Any hints/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Your ultimate solution on these titles that won't re-sync is to go back to DVD2OneX. Although recently I found that if I used DVD2OneX to remake the DVD as film only (but using a large user-defined max file size), when these newly made movies were demuxed and brought into DVDSP, the sync stayed.
