  1. I have a video _ts and Audio_ts folder on my hard drive. i have just the movie only file in the video_ts folder which comes in a 5.17 GB. i have tried to use dvd shrink to get it to the right size for a dvdr but it comes up with an error saying : 'dvd shrink encountered an error.file doesn't exist.the system cannot find the specified file.' any ideas ?what else can i use to shrink a file thats already on hard drive ?

Shrink requires ALL the files on the DVD to work, not just the main movie. a workaround is to use IFOEdit to create the IFOs that are missing in your main movie rip. or you can use DVD2One to shrink your existing files (it does not require all the files like DVD Shrink does). good luck.

Just to follow up on that......when u rip with DVD Decrypter with the intention of compressing with shrink, be sure to do it in FILE mode so that you have all the files from the source DVD. Then DVD Shrink will recognise and compress whatever parts of it u desire. Don't feel bad, I made the same mistake a while back.

BTW.....you don't need to burn any TS folders to your HD. All you need are the files. Any good ripping software will take care of all that tho. Then, when you burn in DVD-video mode, the burning software will create the TS folders on the dvdr for you.

DVD2One is excellent. I use it for 90% of my backups. While it doesn't give you the many editing options that DVD Shrink does, it works great of you either want a movie only or full disk copy without all the nit picky editing that some peeps feel they have to do.

It's worth the cash and simple to use. The quality I get from it is excellent.

Obviously Mr Bodene is using Nero. I disagree that
you should skip the VIDEO_TS folder.
Most (civilized) burning programs need it and WinDVD (for example) won't play
    a video without it.

Since when does data get 'burned" to a HD ?

As for the *burn* comment.....I agree. No idea why I sed that. Meant to use the words *rip* or *Copy to*.

Otherwise.....Nero is the predominant burning software that people use, and this is evidenced by the numerous posts that mention its use, as opposed to other alternatives. Whether you think it's civilized or not is neither here nor there.

As for the WinDVD comment. This forum is about making backups...hence the DVD to DVDr forum name. Therefore my comment was in line with that, rather than being concerned with viewing ripped files from the HD.

Besides.....I didn't see u try to help the person. You just chimed in to diss me. Now, how *civilized* is that? Sheesh. Nuff sed.

Right . The numerous posts reporting problems with it .

WinDVD is useful for checking compiled DVD backups before making a coaster. If I use it for that , is it okay if I post on your forum sir ?

I think you were giving bad advice and I said so. Nero is the only
one that makes its own VIDEO_TS and there have been problems
where burning the VIDEO_TS folder as data fixed it.

  10. I used Nero and DVD video mode, it makes it's own folders as Bodene says. ALSO as Foo says most WORKING apps need the folders to be present.
Foo is correct also that burning the folders in DATA mode sometimes fixes the problems many people have had, including me!

NERO video DVD mode burned disks are about the only disks I have made that DO NOT work in all players tested in! I have narrowerd it down to ALL disks not working have been burned with NERO, and most if not all were the VIDEO mode that creates those folders. Most of the Nero burns I did as data DVD udf mode 1.02 work in most players, but then I did have to create the folders myself too! At best Nero is buggy! Works for many and not for others. Myself EVERY disk I made with Nero works in my player! But when I take my disks elsewhere some of the Nero burns have a 50/50 or less chance of working.

Anyway, if you are going to use DVD shrink, why didn't you just ripp the disk with it in the first place? Put disk in drive, rip with shrink and compress at the same time, correct size ready to burn or edit when done
Works for me everytime, though I normally have better things to do than make Backups, but I have done quite a few.

Also how did you get movie only into a folder to begin with at 5.7gig? You should be able to ripp movie only from the disk with shrink to if you want.
And of course make sure those folder are all in CAPS too.

If ripping with some other program I would ripp the entire disk, then shrink movie only if that's what you want to do.

And you really should test your DVD before burning, with a program like Power DVD and you need the files in the correct folder I beleave to do that. Not entirely sure, since I do it right anyway to begin with and have the files in the correct folders. I never really tried with out the folders

  11. I haven't tried it, but if you have TMPGENC DVD Author, you may be able to use it to "build"the dvd structure so that you can then use dvdshrink to shrink it.

Since we are talking about nero, I personally use Nero express (latest non 6 version) using the dvd-video option and have not had a problem. I would say that the dvd's that I make have played successfully in about 100 different players (and before someone who has too much time on their hands asks why my dvds are on 100 different players, they are non copyrighted home movies).
