  1. Are there any tools available for converting a .ogm video file (Xvid video with vorbis audio - both which have quicktime codecs available) into a quicktime-friendly container? Neither ffmpeg nor mencoder seem to like .ogm files, and searches on versiontracker and macupdate for ".ogm" turn up zilch.
Does anyone know of a way to do this? Thanks for your help.

If your Mplayer won't play it, then you have an older version. Mine plays it just fine, and thus Mencoder would convert it.

What format are you trying to convert it to ultimately?

ALso, if playback is all you are after, and dont care for Mplayer, VLC has been able to play OGM files for quite some time now...

  4. VLC plays them just fine, but Mplayer seems to crash sporatically while playing them. when I tried encoding the files with mencoder, it kept giving me errors related to the audio.

The reasons I wanted them in a quicktime friendly format were so I could extract video/audio clips of my favorite parts, and so I could convert them to MPEG-2 for DVD playback

i see... PM me your AIM contact details and I can help get you up and running. When dealing with multiple audio streams, things get a little more complicated using Mencoder.

I have a .ogm that will play fine under mplayer, and I also want to convert it to a useable format like the author of the original post, but I don't know the commands needed to convert the file to the quicktime-friendly container. Could you please tell me what I need to type into mencoder to the the file to be encoded into the file I would like it to be?

    Thank you,
