  1. about a third way into a project i get a messgae that my system memory (?) is low and i should increase my pagefile (already at 384M with 512M physical RAM under Win2k OS). moments later the program freezes and I cntr-Alt-del to stop program. also i have lots space on HDD.
i have two small movies that has gone thru DVD Shrink 3.0b5 to get it at the right size that i create menus and chapter points for. i have been successful in doing very short movies (total size about 1G including menus) but these two movies above weigh in at 4.2G total.
any ideas what the problem might be? thanks.

  2. If I remember correctly, from Win95 on pagefile size must at least equal, if not greater, the physcial RAM you have. All my PC's have pagefiles 1.5 times the size of RAM.

  3. Think that sounds about right, though I haven't had to mess with any page file settings for years myself. Maybe equal or greater than ram.

This is however a system problem it would seem, not a tmpgenc DVD author problem. You might want to post a different question in the computer section about page file settings and see what answers you get there. Alot of people might know about page files but not use that program and skip over this post.

Don't double post though, that's a no no, but asking about the page files is a different thing altogher

  4. thanks for your responses. i will increase the pagefile to 512. funny though i have never had this problem before. i use very demanding progs like photoshop and premiere extensively, and have never had a memory/pagefile issue. thanks again.

  5. have never had a memory/pagefile issue
Me too, I also run 2kpro on several systems and never have page file errors, but that includes Tmpgenc DVD author also, it never gives me any errors either

Let us know if that fixes your problem though.
Might help others if they have the same problem latter. SO post back the results.

You are creating some huge files in Authoring.

As a rule of thumb you should let windows manage your virtual memory. It's impossible to not use virtual memory. Having 1 GB of RAM is useless without virtual memory. Sad but true. If you want better performace that dynamic swapfile (windows default), set your virtual memory to 1 GB fixed. Defrag before you make the setting change.

thanks for the responds. will post my results. i think i might have discovered the culprit...i run a memory optimizer in the background and have it set to optimize every 20 minutes. i think that utility optimizes whether the system is at idle, or running full-blast; like when TDA is running
