  1. I'm very new to the world of DVD burning and have been having a few problems. I've already made about 7 coasters.

I have a Pioneer A06 DVD burner and have been trying to back up a few films using DVD X Copy Platinum. I've been removing the annoying 321 disclaimer using the instructions found on this site.

Most of the time when I try to play the backed-up DVD-Rs in my Apex 660 player, the movie will sometimes freeze between chapters and sometimes certain menu items just lock up.

I've tried just burning the backup without removing the 321 disclaimer and the same problem occurs.

I've tried DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter and the same problem occurs.

    I'm using E3Works DVD-Rs.

Needless to say, I'm becoming quite frustrated!

    Can anyone offer any advice?

    Much appreciated.

Tiz prolly yer media causing the problem. Try a better quality media and I bet your problem will vanish. Stick with Maxell, Memorex, TDK or Ritek if possible. Store brands and generics often cause the issues you report.

Other things u might also try are....

    1) Burn it slower. Some machines make terrible copies at 4x or even 2x.

    2) Try your backups on other machines to verify that it is indeed a problem with the discs you burned.

    3) Stick with DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter.

I also agree with Bodene. The "one button" software sounds tempting....but I won't use it. My LG 4040B is a 4x burner....but use Ritek 2x discs and all work perfectly.

  4. I just got the Pioneer also, and am using DVDxcopy Platinum. I have had zero problems with this setup.

Since you have had the same results with more than one software, it is obvious that it is something else.

I'd look at different media first, if there is no joy, then I would look into the hardware and setup configuration of your system.

  5. Why do you keep making coasters. Ever heard of DVD-RW. Oh well its your nickle.
I always record a DVD+/-RW before making a final copy. Just to make sure.

  6. ^^^ I received a 25-pack of the DVD-Rs as a present along with the drive. They look pretty cheap anyway. But you're right... I'm going to buy some brand-name DVD-Rs and RWs and try it.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I'm going to give it a try tonight.

  7. Sorry... yet another dumb newbie question.

I picked up a few Maxell 2x DVD-Rs and some RWs.

My drive is capable of 4x. Do I have to manually set the burn speed or does the drive automatically detect it?

If 3 different methods fail, it's usually media.

Your burner software will limit you either to disk or burner speed, whichever is lowest.

    In my opinion:

Any product from 321studios sucks. Use CloneDVD with AnyDVD or DVD Decrypter. And Ritek DVD-R's.
