  1. Hi all.

This is my very first post here. Just "feeling out the waters".

I have been reading this site for quite a while now, and figured it is time to join this forum..

I am 100% a n00b when it comes to DVD backing up. But I did lots of homework, and got a Pioneer 106D, since they are reported to work with lots of media.

My main hangout is www.amdforums.com .

So, dont get too upset if I ask questions that are obvious...

  3. Thanks SR for the welcome...

I will post a couple of other threads, one having to do with my experience sofar, and another asking some opinions, and questions.

There is an extensive amount of guides and tutorials here, but I need to ask too.

  4. Welcome to the forums. Always good to see new people that are willing to learn and read tutorials. Most people just ask without ever looking for the answer first.

Try and post your topic in the right forums........I am sure you will do just fine. This is just an offtopic forum but it is the one I frequent the most. These guys are great....hehehehe

If you really are a New Kid on the Block, do you think you could sing The Right Stuff or Hangin Tough for us?

    Once again, Welcome

That is one of the many great things about this site, the guides. Some advice: When you have a problem with something, do a forum search because most of the time it has already been discussed. Also read, read, read, read, because if you post a question that has been discussed a million times before, (ex. How do I copy a DVD to DVDR?) you will not be happy with the answers you get. Anyway, we have many intelligent members that come here everyday and will be more than happy to help you out with any problems you may be having as long as they see you tried to help yourself first.

    Hatz,

You just brought back some terrible memories, that use to be my sisters favorite group back when we were little.

  8. Not to "toot my horn" or anything, but I have almost 5000 posts at AMDforums.

I am aware that the same noobish questions do get old fast. But sometimes, for the new guy, it is difficult to find where things can be found. I usually post a link in the thread to help others along.

I also belong to CDfreaks.com, which is a great source of information for optical hard/software.

Naa, you DO NOT want to hear me sing, the dogs start howling. lol

I am a hardware junkie, in the AMD flavor. I build em and OC, so I have decent knowledge of the innards. Software I am still working at though. So much out there.

  9. Well it will be good to have an AMD guru on here then. We probably already have one but you can always use good guys on this board. I have an AMD.....hehehehe. XP2100+. I know its nothing much but its good for what I do, I will probably upgrade next year and go with a 64bit chip of some kind.

As for bringing up memories, slickrick, how about Step by Step or Cover Girl.........remember those songs? HAHAHAHA

Such cheesy music but man is it funny.

  10. Yea, I got one of those XP2100 T'breds too, in the wifes PC now. Best I could get out of mine was 2.3ghz @ 1.9v, with an Epox 8RDA. I since moved on to the Barton 2500, but it is kind of a mutt, it is running at 10.5x210, @ 1.775v. It will do more, but you can "feel" when it is pushed too far.

Yea, those 64's look nice, but at $400 I think I will wait a while, maybe next summer.

  11. The most I ever got out of mine was when I tried to OC it when I first installed it just to see what I could get. I only ended up getting 2.0ghz out of it but decided to stop because of the stock fan and stuff.

I also didn't want to keep it OCed because encoding raises the CPU temperature enough. If it was OCed and encoding, it probably wouldn't get along with the rest of my system too well.

My case and CPU temp, stay around 40 degrees at all times which is good for me. When encoding it can sometimes get around 45 to 46 degrees but cools down again when its not doing anything strenuous.

Ya 400 is a little steep, by this time next year, that 400 cpu will probably be dirt cheap. But then we will always want the best so, its a never ending cycle.

  12. The stock HSF is not for OC'ing at all. I bought my Barton retail, for the HSF, and put it on a 1600 Pali, even the Pali ran hot. I replaced the stock fan with a Delta, and seems to work fine now.

I use a SK-7 heatsink with a Sunon 50CFM fan. When I am folding (I always am) http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/ my temps never exceed 43c. There are better heatsinks out there, but IMO the SK-7 is a great bang for the buck.

You make life sound so simple... sadly I think point 5 will be the stop point for most people.. little do they know the power. Of course I'm one to talk, I barely use my iMac right now.

HEY Anyone want to loan me $3500 for a mac upgrade?

No, dumping the ATI card is NOT the solution.
