  1. I tried the method in the VCDhelp-guide: extracting the audio to a separate file. The conversion starts out OK, but after a while it slows down and halts...Is there an other way (of course, there has to be!!!)?

Search the Net for ASF and VirtualDub. Version 1.3c was capable to import ASF-Files. Later the author was forced by M$ to remove this support as it is a patent infringement.

ASF Tools works well (but not on DRM videos). VDUB 1.3c is strickly WME 7 and older codecs, none of the new stuff works on it.

  4. Hmm, I tried AsfTools but I can't drag my ASF-file to the lower coversion-window in the program. I checked my file with G-spot and yes, it's an ASF-file...What could be wrong here?

Record the audio from stereo out with an audio editor programme like goldwave and record the video with hypercam ( http://www.hyperionics.com/ ) as a last resort. I have to admit that I don't have experience with hypercam.

  8. Thanx Schmendrick for your good intentions, but Hypercam didn't do the job either. It messed with my Media Player.

  11. perhaps then the asf file you have is actually DRM protected, and in that case your virtually out of luck (at least for the time being anyway) your best bet then would be to

A: use a video card and run the signal out of your pc and record it onto a vcr or what have you

B: use a screen capture program
