  1. Well, the ADVC-110 appears to be very similar to the ADVC-100 except:

    $20 price increase
    white instead of black
    added secam (input only) support
    lost the rear inputs
no power supply included (29.95 additional option)
but can be powered by 6-pin firewire
S100 FireWire (100Mbps) ports instead of S200 FireWire (200Mbps) ports

What do you wanna bet that it "lost" the clean dirty signal function of the ADVC-100?

does seem a bit odd price wise

(the 100 doesnt have the cleans, enhances feature either - btw)

  3. The 100 used to (meaning did at one time) have an undocumented "clean dirty signal function" which could be used to remove macrovision, but was originally intended I think to allow capture of bad VHS tapes. Apparently the 100 "lost" this function also sometime in the past few months, so I am really lost as to the point of this new 110 model.

I have tested this "undocumented feature" on my ADVC-100 which was purchased 2-15-04 and it works for me. Looks like my unit was one of the last made it before it was removed.

    quote from the Canopus forums:

"You can try an undocumented 'dirty signal filter' on the ADVC-100. Hold down the silver button on the ADVC-100. After about three seconds the unit will output colorbars, keep the button down. When the colorbars disappear (a total of about 15 seconds) the filter is activated and will remain active until you power the unit down."

My advc 100 has the cleaner feature, but does not show any color bars before it kicks in. You hold down the button for at least 25 seconds, and then let go and if it comes on it will. Another try is somethings needed. But no color bars I have ever seen.

I ended up buying the advc 500, as I am doing some pro paid jobs and I needed the flexibility. I am glad the advc 100 has something the 500 does not have. And having two Pent 4s cooking, it is nice to have the second dv converter, so each have their own unit in the event I need to have both going at same time to save time.
