i am trying to fit three 45 min episdoes of a TV show onto a DVD-r at the moment i have just authoured the first using tmpgnc authour and it comes out at 3,3 Gb so only one episode will fit on a DVD-r, is there any settings i can alter to reduce the file size without loosing to much quality etc etc

as i author my own dvds what i usually do is:
get the video+audio streams that i want (mpegs)
author the dvd using scenarist or other
export the dvd files (video TS)
use dvdshrink to shrink the full dvd
it's a pretty good method to me
but you can just reduce the quality and bitrate parameters in tmpgnc -
You should be able to hit 3 45 minute eps with no problems. I can do 4 hours without trying in 1/2 D1 resolution. You have something set wrong to hit 3+ GB in 45 minutes. Try a CQ encode in the 4000-5000 range.
