  1. New to DVD convertion.
In TMPGEnc what are the key settings to convert an AVI that is 608 x 256 to be played on a wide screen TV ? (it seems that the the loaded DVD template defaults to 4:3?)

    Video tab:
    Aspect ratio: 16:9 Display

    Advanced tab:
    Source aspect ratio: 1:1 (VGA)
Video arrange method: Full screen (keep aspect ratio)

Or use the Project Wizard in TMPGEnc. Try this guide but select the DVD 16:9 template instead of the 4:3 one.

  3. Thanks Erratic...
I noticed that when I open the Wizard (in this version of TMPGEnc)I do not have a choice of 16:9 in the "Select Format" page, only DVD NTSC and DVD PAL.
So,I guess I will have to unlock.mcf or just use the manual settings as you suggest.

The latest version is 2.521.58.169 I think. It has the 16:9 template. But you can set it manually as well, of course.

  5. Thanks again Erratic...
You see,I get a bit confused because some of the Xvids and Divx I have are so varied when it comes to the video stream size (ie: I have one that is 608 X 256 and another is 576 x 320)so I wonder what I should be setting TMPGE at to have them all come out to work nicely on a 16:9 widescreen.
Another question is,how do you know (other than the video stream size) if it is 4:3 or 16:9 ?
Is it the case that if you open it up in TMGE the settings will automatically tell you (before you load the template)?
    thanks
