i'm using convertXtoDvd, i've added 2 files to the tileset, both have a resolution of 624x464(one video file being 730mb, the other being 810mb)-- using NTSC format, what should i let the 'DVD Resolution' be? 'Full D1'(720x480), 'Half D1'(352x480, guessing NOT this one as the resolution is lower than the videos), or set it to "Automatic- Based on input resolution"?

and what about the setting for Aspect Ratio? would 4:3(full screen), 16:9(wide screen) or "Automatic(program decides aspect ratio by source data)"?

which settings would yield me the best results so that on a dvd player it won't be so choppy and you won't see as many blocks of pixels(bad resolution)? thanks in advance

File size is irrelevant. The length (or time) of the file has more meaning than the avi file size.

  3. 720x480, 4:3. Assuming the source is square pixel. Drop to half D1 if your source is much over 2 hours.

how would i know if it's square pixel or not, and if it is not square pixel, what would be dfifferent? the source together is over 2 hours(each vid is 90min long), but convertxtodvd said it would take 4.2gb, and the quality would be "good"

  5. how would i know if it's square pixel or not,
Open the AVI in VDub(Mod). If things look "normal" (not stretched or squashed), it's square pixel. If I were a betting man I'd go with square pixel.

  6. AVI files are usually square pixel. If the file is Divx or Xvid GSpot can tell you if it's square pixel -- PAR 1.00 (1:1). 624x464 is very close to a 4:3 ratio so my guess is it is square pixel and has a display aspect ratio of 4:3.

3 hours on a single layer DVD is in the range where you want to think about using half D1 resolution. It depends on how clean the sources are and how much "action" is in them.
