I am using the 4040 in an ADS Pyro USB2/Firewire case with no problems. Also, tried it in a cheaper generic ME-320U2F case and no problems either.

No problem with the generic and the 4040. I just like the looks of the ADS plus the 4040 together.

I'm using one of these http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=ME-320U2F with my HP DVD200i.

The firewire portion of this case is based on Oxford 911 and it is firmware upgradeable. I updated it to Oxford 911 firmware 3.7 (27-Jan-2003).

Is important to note that as far as I know this case only support ATA-5 (up to 120GB) but it will handle Maxtor 160GB using a proprietary protocol, but you may need to upgrade the firmware to accomplish this.

To get the firmware read this thread: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=130579

  7. I ripped my Plextor 12x burner out of its LaCie firewire case and tried using the 4040 in it and could only get 2x dvd burn and 16x cd write on both mac (toast 6) and pc (nero 6). the burner/case are 3 years old, and though the case IS firewire 400 I dunno what the prob was, maybe just bad hardware (which is an odd thing coming from lacie). installed the thing in my pc on second channel master and burns at 4x dvd and 24x cd full speed. i'll just use my network if I have somethign on my mac I want to burn; 100 base t keeps up fine for cds and caching for dvds is no big deal....

  8. Hey guys, i have the dvr-106 and the me-320 external enclosure; it doesn't work. I tried Nero, recordnow max, and tmp author; none of them work. It would just report error; all different kinds. The only programs that can actually finish burning successfully is dvd decrypter, but it took the drive to retry writing 296 times to burn 1 dvd. Any advice or remmendation toward a different external enclosure.
