  1. Hi all!

Which encoder is the the best when converting DVD to SVCD, CCE or TMPGEnc?

  2. Some prefer CCE, but I like TMPGEnc which has always gotten me better quality results. It's a matter of personal preference though. There really is no "better".

There is no best encoder for anything. Its like asking what the best color is, its entirely subjective.

What can be said objectively is that CCE is much faster than TMPGenc. On the average pc CCE is anywhere from twice as fast to literally 4 times faster. CCE definitely has a steeper learning curve and may require you to do more preparation for your source before you are ready to encode. For instance, if you need to do any resizing you are going to have to do that before using CCE. TMPGenc has many more built in features and filters, and it supports program stream tools, ie: cut/join/mux/demux etc... Its more of an all in one program, whereas CCE is just a bare bones encoder.

Both encoders are extremely high quality, and either will produce stellar SVCDs.

  4. Feels like I´ll stick to TMPGEnc, then... I still have the problem that I get a .mpv file instead of a .mpg file, though ....... I´ve been over it again and agin and can´t find the problem... Any suggestions?

Open Tmpgenc - close the wizard and look at the "stream type" box, is
marked "Es" or "System". You should get an mpg file if its marked "System" .
