  1. i have a ton of wmv files that i need to converto to any format that i can use in final cut/ imovie. i bought cleaner thinking that would do, but it can;t read the wmv file. i searched this forum and it the suggestion was made to use ffmpegx. i downloaded that, followed the directions and it seemed to convert (.avi). but quicktime wouldn't open it (time duration incorrect or something like that) i have no idea what i am doing with the settings, so i didn;t change a thing. is there an easier way, tutorial etc. i would really appreciate any help. i am even toying with the idea of buying a pc just to do this (i don;t even know what program to use in that case eitther) anyway, i would really like some help, thanks

i know its not really the answer you want, but since you mentioned a pc, i'll throw it out there. i had some wmv files and used nero (cd burning software) choose vcd option and just dropped the wmv files in, the files added up to about 30 minutes worth of footage, and it took it abou 30 minutes of encoding then it burned the vcd. after re-encdoing it still looked pretty damn good too. again i know its not a mac solution, but i'm throwing it out there cause it worked for me and maybe it'll help you.

i might also posted this in the ffmpegx forum too or seearch there, maybe there's more info there????

    good luck.

Since you bought Cleaner, you should be able to convert windows media into DV. yes there are alot of confusing settings, but one of the dvd presets under quicktime would be a good start - be sure to choose output as DV.
This may take some experimentation on your part, but it can be done.

cleaner doesn't appear to accept wmv as an input - only output - sorry.
