I bought a new Plextor 708A, then I used DVDDecrypter, and DVD Shrink 2.3, I first ripped the movie using DVDDecrypter, full movie into my hard drive, then I used DVD Shrink to reduced the movie size down so it would fit onto the 4.3Gb DVD+R(Memorex) that I bought.
When I took the DVD+R that I ripped, to play on a DVD Player, that has capable of playing DVD+RW/-RW, I got nothing.
Does anyone know why? Is it because of Encrypting or something else? I know that DVD Shrink will De-Crypt the movie wouldn't it? That's what I think.
I followed all the steps the tutorial on DVDDecrypter was told, but for some reason it won't play on a dvd player. But it will play on my pc.
Much Appreciated for anyone helping me out...thanks!

Has your DVD player ever sucessfully played a DVD+R? Some older (2 years or so) will not.
Did you try it in a computer DVD-Rom? If it plays there then you know you have a problem with your stand-alone player.
What program did you use for burning? DVDshrink gives you the files, but then you have to use a burning program to get them in the right format for burning to DVD.
Encryption should not be a problem since it was removed by DVDDecrypter (and DVDShrink has its own built in de-crypter as well if you want to use it directly with a Disc.) -
Assuming that your set top DVD player supports +R then I would suspect the burning software you used in burning your DVD. If your using Nero you may need to make sure that your version supports DVD Video specifications. (i.e. File format) You can probably search these forums for the correct menu settings for DVDs. I would recommend using RecordNow from Stomp. Its easier to use for DVD creation.
-
Yes please tell us what program you used to burns the files with and the process in detail. Sounds like something is a miss if it will play on the PC but not in your set top player.

I used the Roxio Easy CD Creator DVD Creation that came w/ the DVD Burner. Here are the stepped:
1/Ripped whole movie to the hard disk
2/Used DVD Shrink to shrink down so that it would fit onto the DVD+R Disc.
3/After that, I dragged all the files under my VIDEO_TS folder into the DVD Burner.
That's what I did. Is that the correct of doing it? Or what program that I missed to burner my files onto the DVD Burner.
Also, I took my dvd discs to Video Only Store and tested, it said it's not recognized..or unable to open. -
If it plays on your computer but doesn't play on various stand-alone players you tested at the Video Only store, then it sound like a burning problem.
I do not have any recent experience with Roxio. I used it when it was one of the first CD burning programs, but I haven't used it since and have never used the recent versions for DVDs. It is rarely mentioned when people discuss DVD burning programs that they recommend. Most people (inlcuding myself) favor Record Now DX, or Nero (although some people have problems with getting Nero burned DVDs to work: personally Nero DVDs work for me.)
You should check the burning settings. What is you want is a UDF 1.02/Iso 9660 hybrid or "bridge" setting (that is, it burns both file systems) or just a UDF 1.02 (slightly less compatible but should work in most DVD players). You can check these settings under the data disc settings if Roxio doesn't have a separate DVD setting.
Then you should have both a VIDEO_TS folder and a AUDIO_TS folder. You put all the files from DVD shrink in the VIDEO_TS folder and you leave the AUDIO_TS folder empty (strange but true!) Many DVD players will accept a disc with no AUDIO_TS folder, but a few will not, so it is best to include it.
You might invest in a DVD+RW (rewriteable) (get one or a 5 pack) for your experiments. However, some players that can read DVD+Rs cannot read DVD+RWs. You won't know for sure until you try one in your player.
As you might be sensing, there is just a lot of trial and error involved in finding the right combination of programs, burning settings, and discs that will work in any given player. -
My default setting for Roxio Easy CD Creater DVD Edition was ISO file setting for ejecting the DVD disc, is that the problem?
Anything else that I miss? I was thinking of switching dvd+r to -r?
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance -
The setting has to be UDF 1.02 alone or UDF/ISO hybrid. ISO alone will not work for stand-alone DVD players. That may be your problem right there. (The eject after burn part does not matter.)
You have to have a dual format burner to use either DVD+R or DVD-R? Is yours a dual format burner? -
ok, let me try switching from an ISO file system default setting to UDF file system and see if it'll work or not...
again, thanks everyone who's trying to help out.

I burned the movie successfully, then recorded on my DVD+RW, but then when put in the DVD player (Sony, which have capabilities of playing +RW/-RW...etc..) nothing came up...the only thing that displayed on the dvd player was T 1, I'm assumed it's for tracking 1...then nothing else....
anyone has any suggestions or solutions?
Thanks in advanced.

See if there is a firmware update for your burner,my liteon 411-s wouldnt burn generic dvd-r properly and name brand dvd-r wouldnt play in my apex home dvd player until i updated the firmware, now it burns cheap dvd-r`s and they play in my apex with no problems.

this burner, Plextor PX-708A is new john....I just got them about 2 weeks or so ago...
-
My burner is 7 days old and they came out with 2 different firmwares for my burner in the last week.
-
Check for new firmware, if it's the original there is probably an update. There's a chance it could be the media as was stated also. As a test, burn a disc with burnatonce (it's free).
http://www.burnatonce.com/ -
the problem isn't the player, its Roxio. Easy DVD will NOT make a compliant DVD in my experience. download IMG Tools Classic and make a DVD ISO file with it. Burn the ISO with DVD Decryptor. If that works then you know the problem is definitely Roxio. IMG Tools Classic is free.

if you burnt dvd according to dvd specs, then the disc ought to be good and playable, no matter is it "-" or "+" (providing there's no errors on the disc). Most likely problem is with your player's ability to read "+" media, however I don't know Roxio's authoring software (from my experience Roxio - formerly Adaptec - never made any good software in their "Easy Creator" line, and thats where the problem may be as well).
Try play it on some other brand standalone player that is known to be +R/RW compatible and see does it work there (just go to any large store).
Also don't trust what sony says about their products. I still have their expensive model that supposed to play +R discs, but so far it hasn't been able to play *any* DVD+R/RW discs. My cousin has another sony player that they list as +R/RW compatible, and it doesnt play any of +R discs either (while it plays +RW lol).
Personally - I will never buy any sony product ever again.
I've been burnt in the past with their dvd player, their dvd writer, their cd writer, and Im waiting for my sony TV to die anytime too (just checked - surprisingly its still working... -

I dragged all the files under my VIDEO_TS folder into the DVD Burner.
i assumed roxio was set up proper to burn a dvd-video disc. -
yes...those 2 folders (AUDIO_TS 'n VIDEO_TS) are there on the disc. I don't think there's any problem with my (Sony) DVD standalone player. I put in original movies and it works fine.
But, I did dl the newer firmware today, 'n it's updating from 1.01 to 1.03...now I'm back to burning files as an ISO not UDF. Is this gonna be a problem?
I did dl burnatonce and don't know how to work that yet. I guess i have to convert files to ISO and burn onto the dvd player right?
Another thing i've found that there's a list of compatability media (dvd discs) at plextor's website 'n I didn't see any Memorex media disc on it...I think that maybe the problem right there.
Any more suggestions are appreciated!
thnx...TB -
Modern Standalone DVD players are designed to read the UDF filesystem. The standard burning formula for Video DVDs is UDF/ISO, which means it creates both file systems for maximum compatibility on standalones or computers. But if you use only ISO you are guaranteeing problems with your standalone DVD player. Straight ISO for a DVD is only used for a DVD-ROM data disc.
The default settings for DVDs for most burning software is UDF/ISO. Any default setting for DVD video would be UDF/ISO. So check the default settings for Roxio.
You might be confused because an image file of a DVD is sometimes referred to as an 'iso.' But this is because the term was carried over from CD image files which all used the ISO file system.
Your media might be the problem. But I would also take the earlier advice and use some of the free DVD image burning software recommended above. No one here has anything good to say about Roxio as DVD burning software. -
Find a short/small DVD (The Fifth Element and Wrong Turn are two I recently burned) with no extras. Load the DVD into DVD Decrypter and go to Mode-> ISO-> Read. If the total size of the DVD is less than 4450 you are good to go (4450 divided by 1024 = 4.35 G). Hit the Decrypt button to start the rip (15 - 40+ minutes). Note where the .ISO is filed. Now while still in DVD Decrypter , pop in a blank -R and go to Mode-> ISO-> write, and open the .ISO file you just ripped. Hit the Burn button. This could take a bit of time. Hopefully the resultant DVD will work in you DVD players. You could then repeat the test with a +R and see if that one also works. I have found -R (but certain brands of -R's are more compatible than others) to work in far more players than +R. If that works you could then move on to squeezing a larger DVD. Let us know.

John, for some reason when i updated my firmware to 1.03, the setting in Roxio fall back to ISO, and dimmed out UDF file system. Recently, I reset my burning to UDF, and it seems like it works. But when put the dvd disc i burned into my standalone dvd player, it doesn't play, only showed T 1 (assuming for tracking 1) and nothing else.
So, the 2nd suggestions I'd probably try is from MysticE, I'll try to burn as in .ISO file, then burned them into my -R disc. Hopefully that will work..but not sure if it's compatible when play on dvd standalone.
I never tried working .ISO file before, so I'm new too it. Now, the questino is like will it created 2 folders (AUDIO_TS 'n VIDEO_TS)? If not, then how would it play?
Thnx again...for all of u trying to help me. So far, I've burned a few dvd discs 'n nothing work....it's driving me crazy...NEED HELP!!!

Note the -R Princo disc (it burns at 2X). Although many knock them (they do tend to produce read errors at the end sometimes) for maximum compatability in standalones they seem to be the way to go. My preferred discs are Ritek G03's (clean, error free reads in Nero CD/DVD Speed with my LG) but they won't work in my older Sampo player, while Princo burns do. My newer Sampo plays any brand I throw at it.
A very lucky break for the Flea market bootleggers (amazing how so many of them openly operate with no repercusions) they get the highest level of 'customer satisfaction' by using the cheapest discs out there. -
MysticE, you're awesome....thanks a millionsssssssssssssssss....i tried the method u said earlier, using dvd decrypter, read->ISO, then write -->ISO then it works marvelously...from now on I guess this is the best way for me to go...as long as it works fine
Again, thnx everyone for helping...and a great big HANDS to MysticE
