dvd to avi

is dvd2avi the best program to turn dvd to avi? ive tried it and you have to go thru many steps, i saved the project in avi then i had to run it in tmpgenc because the video and audio were separate, i save the ausio as a wav file.. is there a program then there are less step? i couldnt get an avi file to emailfrom dvd2avi because it didnt just switch it to an avi file..,

my reason is i want to get a portion of the dvd video to email as a avi file, tried to get a good file quality to email but as i did these steps..

also what a good dvd ripper to get the dvd file to my hard drive?

is there a progran to get the dvd off the dvd to avi?

DVD Shrink and DVD Decryptor are good freeware rippers. Virtual Dub mod can convert your VOBs to AVIs.

does virtualdubmod do everything virtualdub does? so can i delete virtualdub from my hardrive and just keep vitualdubmod?

Yes, I only use Virtual Dub mod now. Virtual Dub cannot load VOBs, so I have no use for it now I have the "mod".

When I load a VOB into Virtualdubmod and try to save as an AVI (with some codec' compression) it takes HOURS to make the conversion. On the other hand if I choose "no compression RGB" it takes only minutes but GIGANTIC file sizes.... what can I do to convert my VOBs to AVIs ?(AVIs for editing on NLE).

It all depends on the final product you want. If you want DVDs, go ahead and frameserve the VOB to TMPGEnc.
