  1. I am going on holiday in four days and plan to buy a lot of gear while I am away. I just called up the airline to see how much excess baggage would be and they said................

    wait for it

£31 bloody quid per kg. It would of been cheaper to buy another seat. Think I am going to mail aload of the gear back to myself.

  2. We had a similar situation returning home from Sth Africa back home to Sydney Australia ($60 aus per kg over) 2 bags at 20kg each was allowed, but we got away with around 5kgs over, so you might get lucky!
Remember, a little bit of bullshit goes a long way when your checking in, treat the person with respect. Come accross as someone who is on their level because they get a lot of snobb ******* type yuppie pricks!
    good luck

I used to have the same problem - my wife moved halfway across the country before we got married, and I couldn't move out there for 18 months.

every time I went to visit, I'd find all sorts of cool records, books and other crap, so I got in the habit of coming out with only a carry-on bag, and then taking two boxes back as checked luggage upon return... and usually shipping another 2 or 3 boxes back to myself via UPS.

  4. The thing is an average person (oblivious of gender) must way around 100 kgs. If I bought a third ticked it would of cost £650 and I would of got their 20kg baggage allowance also. To take 100kgs at these stupid rates would be £3100, I do not know how they are allowed to charge these extortionate prices.

because you always have a choice - you can have someone else ship your stuff for you, rather than the convienience of bringing it to the airport and putting it on the plane.

as baffling as it is to me, there are people with more money than sense who will just check the baggage and whip out a credit card, rather than taking an hour beforehand and hitting a shipping company...

When to think about it, taking it with you on the plain should be compared ot the overnight delivery rate for comparison.
