Does anybody know how to take a clip that is already inserted in the timeline and cut footage out of the middle of it? I can of course remove it from the first of it and the end, but I want to remove footage from the middle and then piece it back together for a seemless cut. Do I use the razor tool for this or something else? Thanks in advance to all that respond.

Hi jones_randy,
I use Premiere 6.0 (not 6.5) so it may be different, but I'm presuming it's not (or, at least, not much).
From what you describe, it sounds like the razor tool is the right one to use.
For absolutely spot on cuts, set the timeline scale to frames rather than seconds or minutes - the lower the number of frames, the more accurate. You can then move along frame-by-frame to the exact point where you want to make the cut(s) and then revert back to the seconds or minutes view of the timeline to see the project as a whole.
The cut clip will remain in place, but be bounded by thin black vertical lines, meaning that it can be cut, copied or moved as you desire, leaving the rest behind. This will NOT affect your source file, only the way Premiere replays it.
Hope that helps...There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

6.5 is not much different than 6.0. It all looks and works pretty much the same as far as editing goes so you are right!
