    First of all, thank you for this forum. It has been tremedously helpful to me. I searched the forums, but didn't see anyone with this type of issue.

    I have a Sony DRU-510A (multiformat DVD plus CDRW) and WinXP. I use Pinnacle Studio 8 to create DVD's and have been very happy with the results.

    In "My Computer" and elsewhere, sometimes the drive shows up as a "CDRW" and sometimes it shows up as a "DVDRW". It seems to be hit and miss and therefore won't always allow me to access one or the other.

    Does anyone know how I can get WinXP to "see" the drive as a DVDRW at all times?

    Not that I would presume to know this answer, but I've seen a lot of XP problems cured by upgrading to Service Pack 1. Larmz, do you know if you have it installed (right click on My Computer, left click on Properties, General Tab)?
