I don't know if this is off topic or not...

But the program Camstudio was recommended to me to record video off my PC screen. For the most part I want to record gameplay, and I want it to record as smoothly as the game plays, and look as good (I can compress later). I already know to record a region of the screen, and play in windowed mode. But I'm confused about the video recording options. I either get it to record not enough frames so that it looks way too choppy or it records it too fastly, resulting in a fast forwarded like video, but still doesn't capture every frame. AND, the video looks poor quality though I set it to highest quality.

So if anyone knows how to use Camstudio, if you could please help me out with these options? I can also tell you the video codecs I have to choose from, and I know under 'configure' the codec have their own settings as well, making this pretty complicated, when all I want to do is press record and have it record exactly like how I see the game when I play it. Ofcourse I guess it doesn't help that recording while playing slows the game down too.

    Any suggestions?

    Here are my codecs:

    Cinepak Codec by Radius
    Intel Indeo[R] Video Interactive
    Intel IYUV Codec
    Microsoft Video 1
    DivX 5.0.2 Codec

You can see my PC specs by using the appropriate button.

    Thanks.

  2. Camstudio is too slow for this.

Someone suggested FRAPS; I'd try that.

Yeah, the only problem is that Fraps is not free. The one I want costs money. And the trial only allows 15 second movies to be recorded, and you can only have it half size (not sure if that means resolution or window size). The price is not too bad, but I probably won't use Fraps enough to make it worth while.
