I tried posting this to Newbie conversions and did not get any responses, so I am trying here.
I want to use ULead MediaStudio to create a DVD-VR file starting with an MPEG-II file. If I create the MPEG-II file using MediaStudio, I can select it in the ULead DVD-VR wizard and convert it to DVD-VR format. If I create the MPEG-II file using tmpgenc, the DVD-VR wizard tells me that the MPEG file is not compatible. I have compared the MPEG files created with MediaStudio and tmpgenc and the only difference I can see is that the MediaStudio produced MPEG files are DVD-NTSC, Field Order A. The files I produce with tmpgenc are DVD-NTSC with no field order or DVD-NTSC, Field Order B. I don't know if this is the one and only characteristic that is making my MPEG file incompatible with the ULead DVD-VR wizard, but since I cannot find a way to control the field order in tmpgenc, I can't get past this possibility.
Anybody have any suggestions?

Why in the world would you want to CREATE a DVD-VR format video? I can't even remotely imagine why you or anyone would want to do this!Originally Posted by ddonnelly
As for TMPGEnc ... well ... it is rather easy to change the field order of the incomming video before converting it to MPEG-2 so I don't understand the problem there? Haven't you looked in the settings? It is on the TAB called ADVANCED.

Why don't you just make a NORMAL DVD and burn it to DVD-RW if you want it on some sort of re-writable format.Originally Posted by ddonnelly

The Panasonic will not play DVD-RW, just DVD-R (not reusable media) or DVD-RAM. It's a good machine, not a perfect machine.

Just make your life easy and burn it to a DVD-ROriginally Posted by ddonnelly
I mean the things aren't THAT expensive. If you want to watch this bad enough on your TV vs the COMPUTER then it must be worth burning to a DVD-R disc.
Either that or buy a cheap second DVD player that can handle DVD-RW discs. You are probably better off doing that since you will have less wear and tear on your expensive DVD recorder IF you only use it for recording and not playback.
