  1. I recently purchased a 24" True-Flat RCA TV/VCR/DVD combo unit from Sam's. I really like the unit. It has great picture and sound - especially with the DVD. I do have one gripe, however. The box said that it supported DVD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3. With this in mind, I thought that it should be able to read VCD/SVCD's as well since they are on CD-R media. Sure enough, when I got it home and inserted a VCD, the unit replied "Incorrect Disc". After trying several VCD's and SVCD's and upon closer reading the manual, I found one line which states that Video CD's are not supported with this model.

Is it really so hard for a manufacturer to make a DVD player that supports all of the common formats?!? If anyone here knows of a firmware update or possibly a "Service Menu" fix that would allow me to play VCD/SVCD's on this unit, I would appreciate your reply.

    Thank You,

    Jay

  2. Its all pretty much in the software that the manufacturer uses in the dvd player and yes you would think the software that picks up more formats than the standard dvd/mp3/cdr is more expensive but i just picked up an Apex 1225 for 34.00 and its played everyformat ive thrown at it (over 9 so far) so go figure!
