  1. i just got this card today, and let it install all the drivers neccessary from the CD provided. after a reboot, i click on the TV (version 7.9) icon, only to find that the picture comes out black/white (w/ dotted horizontel lines) and i get no sound.

Im in PAL region and the sapphire card is made for the pal regions. ive connected my RCA cables and S-Video to the input block.

just wanted to ask if anyone had a solution before i try newer drivers etc.

When i open virtual dub, the same picture, no colour, etc...

    any ideas ?

  2. *UPDATE*

i tried the latest graphics and multimedia drivers from the ati website.
it resulted in the TV app not working at all.
i reinstalled the old drivers from the disc and i still have the same problem w/ the black/white screen w/ no sound.

You are in PAL region but the card is on the default NTSC setting. Somewhere in the setup for the Multimedia Centre there is the setting for this. Although you say you are in PAL area, you don't say exactly where. If you are in UK it should be PAL-I.

  4. thanks for the reply

yep, im in the UK, so its PAL-I.

in the MMC Setup settings, i have selected PAL-I from when i installed the software.

ive actually flicked through the other broadcast standard settings as a test, yet it none of them does mmc display any colour.

not sure what else to try :S

If you've set to PAL-I, it should be correct. You've connected S-Video and phono connections to the block but are you trying to look at a video input from there or are you trying to watch broadcast TV? If broadcast TV, have you connected a TV aerial feed to the card? You say you get B & W pictures and no sound but the pictures have white dots. This might even be a very weak TV signal (which you would get if you haven't connected an aerial!).

If the signal level from the TV aerial drops, first it will show white 'snow', if it drops further, it will drop into black and white and mute the sound. What TV aerial feed are you using? Can you put a portable TV on that feed just to make sure you have sufficient signal. My Radeon 7500 AIW (Hercules version) needs slightly more signal level than a portable TV to give perfect pictures.
