I'm new to burning DVD-R's myself and I have found the following guides by Sefy Levy to be most helpful. These guides offer a lot of actual screenshots that explain each step in the process in a logical, yet concise manner. Sefy Levy explains which steps you should follow and why in laymans terms, without unnecessary technobabble that only confuses the reader. I hope it helps you as much as it's helped me.
