Getting some really weird and annoying problems with my LG DVD burner, it was working fine for the first week or so, but now its doing some strange things, when I try to format my verbatim DVD-RWs so I can write and read them using windows explorer, using the included B's clip, after waiting a good hour or so, I check the drive with my "formatted" DVD-RW in it it reads "free space: 0 bytes" and "total size: 416kb" I've done this areound 3-4 times with different DVD's, same result.
The first problem I noticed was when I tried to check my DVD-RAM that came with my burner which had a bunch of files backed up on it, and it kept showing up nothing but I could write files to it, but they would disappear when I would refresh the drive. So I decided to uninstall easy CD creator which I had just updated to work with my burner, after that i could read the files on my DVD-RAM and DVD-RW but not write, saying that the "CD-rom was read only" so then I tried formatting some DVD-RW's thinking directCD from easyCD creator somehow finalized my disc's but that dident work out either.
Some things I've done before the problems: updated easyCD creator, upgraded the firmware
I'm running Windows XP, Any help greatly appreciated.

I don't have a DVD Burner yet....but I do have XP Pro with Easy CD Creator. It does the EXACT same damn thing to me with CD-R's.
I doubt it is your LG. -
Hmm Thanks for the info, I'm pretty sure EasyCD creator has to do with alot of my problems, but I've uninstalled it and some problems still remain (BTW hech which problem were u also having, the disappearing files or the bad formatting or both?), I'm also pretty sure its a software problem, but I cant find exactly what it is, I've tried unistalling, removing programs that run at startup (a variety of combinations), and so on...
I also updated the DVD-RAM driver if I'm not mistaken before the problems, then I reinstalled the original, which dident do anything.
sigh. -
I can't quite say exactly what is going on with my problems. All I know is that I have seen WAY too many inaccurate file sizes reported in XP Pro.
I do recall seeing(or not seeing) missing files....but not as often as inaccurate file and folder sizes. -
some generic advise:
uninstall the programs/registry >reboot. unplug the drive >reboot. install the latest aspi driver >reboot. hook up the drive>reboot and verify the dma mode of the drive in the post screen. reinstall programs/patches.- DENON AVR3802/DVD3800

If I recall correctly, I had problems of this kind at first. The problem was that even after uninstalling Roxio's software, Roxio's UDF readers were still grabbing the drive and misinterpreting the disk's contents. My solution was to remove the registry entries for Roxio's UDF readers. Then, the UDF reader provided by LG's DVD-RAM driver was able to take over and read the disk properly.
I think that you can also simply rename the two pertinent files. This article
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/r1041052117
says that the files are
Cdudf_xp.sys
Udfreadr_xp.sys
This thread contains my posting from when I did this myself:

I didn't rename the files, I simply deleted one or two registry entries. -
Most likely your ATAPI, ASPI and/or ESDI controllers do not work properly. This may be due to wrong BIOS setup, incorrectly installed devices, wrong drivers or Windows damage. Start with browsing MS knowlegebase. I doubt if this is your LG drive. Rather its surroundings.
Install Nero and check if you can repeat this error/behavior. That would be my first step. -

This forum was well worth the grueling 1 day posting wait, Thanks again.
