  1. Hello...I CAN"T RIP!
my friend gave me 3 DVDs that appear to have been made from one of those (but maybe the same) DVD RECORDERS because when you play the DVD, that blue screen with yellow stripes comes up with the date and the title of the show, no menus, and 5minute random chapter points. Cheesy. I have been able to rip one or two others, but not enough in my 'sample set' to decide whether I just got lucky ripping some of them.

    I have 4 DVDROMS/writers:
Sony DRU500 and 510 also, a MadDog, (great for 20 bucks after rebate for a 4.5x rip!) and the combi internal on my laptop.

I can't copy all of VTS01, I get a 'CYCLIC REDUNDANCY ERROR', and/or it just stops in all 4 ROMs...AAARGH!!!!!

Here is how I have tried to work around it:
    SmartRipper, DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink
Drag and Drop (after "IGNORE" when it says I do not have authorization, I keep that window open and 'APPLY', it has worked for me in the past)

Has anyone had this problem? I am hoping there is a way around this but as you can see, 4 ROMs, 3 different computers, 4 rippers?!?!?

I am hoping that there isn't something embedded in DVDRs made from a standalone recorder that can prevent 'us' from ripping!

    AY CARAMBA!!

  6. don't know what type of standalone made it, it is a 'concert video' bought from a bootlegger that my friend and i went half-in on to keep down the cost and then burn a copy...so the original is a copy anyway...

oddly enough, the media on one of them is Maxell, so I know it is not a bulk-media piece of *%!@

    thanks anyway
